At the foot of the Căpățânii mountains, a massive mountain range of the Transylvanian Alps, on the territory of the Romani de Jos village, the monastery is located about three kilometers (airline) north of the small town of Horezu.
The cries of nocturnal birds of prey (Romanian huhurezi) that live in the surrounding forests of the monastery probably gave the name of the place. The monastery was founded in 1692 by the then prince of Wallachia Constantin Brâncoveanu (1654-1714) and was built in 1709 until 1862 it was a human monastery. After the monks were transferred to your Bistrita, the nuns came to the monastery. The monastery complex has been restored several times since 1827 and is under conservation.
On a hill the monastery complex is surrounded by two fortifications. The exterior of a smaller wall surrounded the entire estate of the monastery with its hermits. The second consists of three parts of different buildings and a wall to the east. The entrance to the monastery is in the south part of a bell tower, armored with a solid wooden steel gate. The church of the monastery of Saints Emperors Constantine and Helen, built in the middle of the complex in a cross shape, is 32 meters long and was built between 1693 and 1697. Brâncoveanu, however, did not fulfill its purpose and, therefore, was never used. The large iconostasis is carved in lime wood and wrapped in gold.
The square chapel with octagonal tower, whose windows are the light source of the chapel, is located on the west side opposite the entrance to the church and was erected in 1697. The frescoes of the formation were created between 1705 and 1706 and are still in good condition today.

Situated at the foot of the Căpățânii Mountains, a mountain range in the Transylvanian Alps, on the territory of the village of Romanii de Jos, the monastery is about three kilometres (as the crow flies) north of the small town of Horezu.
The calls of nocturnal birds of prey (huhurezi in Romanian) nesting in the woods around the monastery probably gave the place its name. The monastery was founded in 1692 by the then Prince of Wallachia Constantin Brâncoveanu (1654-1714) and completed in 1709. It was a men's monastery until 1862. After the monks were transferred to Bistrita, the nuns came to the monastery. The monastery complex has been restored several times since 1827 and is a listed building.
Situated on a hill, the monastery complex is surrounded by two fortifications. The smaller outer wall surrounds the entire monastery estate with its hermits. The second is formed on three sides by buildings of different heights and a wall to the east. The entrance to the monastery is on the south side through a bell tower with a massive steel-armored wooden gate. The church of the Monastery of Saints Constantine and Helen in the centre of the complex is 32 metres long, 14 metres high and was built between 1693 and 1697. In the vestibule of the church there are several tombs, the most beautiful one decorated with marble and a carved lid, intended for Prince Brâncoveanu, but which did not fulfil its purpose and was therefore never used. The large iconostasis is carved in lime wood and covered with gold.
The square chapel with octagonal tower, whose windows are the chapel's light source, is on the west side opposite the entrance to the church and was built in 1697. The frescoes in the chapel were created between 1705 and 1706 and are still in good condition today.

Bistrita is a town in the north-east of Transylvania in the district of Bistrita-Nasaud. The Bistrița river of the same name flows through the town, which is located near the Bargau Mountains, on the slopes of which there is a wine-growing area
The town's landmark is the Protestant parish church with the highest church tower in Romania (75 m). The church was badly damaged in a major fire in 2008. The extensive restoration and renovation work was completed this year. From the tower of the parish church, which can be reached by elevator, you have a fantastic view over the town and the surrounding mountains.
We would like to thank Mr. Frank Schleßmann for sending us these wonderful pictures and the corresponding text/explanation.

The city is located in the historical region of Western Moldova, on the terraces on the left bank of the Bistritz (Bistritz) surrounded by the foothills of the Eastern Carpathians, the mountains Pietricica, Cozla, Cernegura and Bâtca Doamnei. The oldest traces of a settlement in the current urban area of Poiana Cireșului ("cherry meadow") date from the Mesolithic era (about 12,000 BC).
The city was founded at the end of the 14th century under the name of Christmas Stone. After the establishment of a royal court by Stephen the Great, Prince of Moldavia (1433-1504), it was transformed into a famous center of arts and crafts. The nearby town of Târgu Neamț was the center of a colony of German-speaking settlers from the Middle Ages, hence the name: Neamț is an outdated Romanian term for "German".

Fossils / cave bear tracks have been discovered in the cave, as well as human footprints from the Roman, Dacian and medieval periods. In addition to the gorge and the truly impressive cave, you can also visit the Bistrita Monastery at the entrance to the gorge, the Papusa Monastery and many others. The Vatra Inn guest house is also located nearby.
The Bistrița River of the same name flows through the town, which is located near the Bârgăului Mountains, on the slopes of which there is a wine-growing area.
Bistrița is also the last place mentioned in Bram Stoker's "Dracula" for the journey to Transylvania. This is where the "guest" Jonathan Harker boards the carriage sent by Count Dracula to be taken over hills and valleys to his castle 🧛♂️.

It is a wonderful church, preserved in the municipality of Costesti in Valcea County. Church „ Doll Hermitage ”" was built in 1712 by the monks of the nearby Bistrita monastery and is today the parish church for the villagers of Bistrita ( a district of Costesti ) with the cemetery of the adjacent village.
