Pictures and wonderful impressions that we received today from Ms Traxl, from her journey through Romania (June 2026).

Coming from Hungary, her route led via Timisoara and the Bigar Waterfall, and then to the Danube, along which her journey is currently continuing.

Thank you very much for the beautiful pictures. We wish you a safe and enjoyable onward journey and lots of fun on your holiday in Romania 😊

Lake Ochiul Beiului (The Eye of the Bei) is located in the Cheile Nerei-Beusnița National Park in the southwest of Romania (County: Caras-Severin), near the border with Serbia and the villages of Deutsch-Orawitz (Oravita) and Steierdorf (to the west and east, respectively).

It has a depth of up to 3.6 meters and a diameter of about 15 meters. The fairytale-like green-blue water never freezes in winter, as the lake is constantly supplied with water from a spring.

We thank Ochiu Bei for allowing us to use these beautiful pictures.

Beautiful pictures from the Transfăgărășan, taken at the end of June 2025, that make you want to go on holiday 🥰 Here are some more wonderful pictures of Bâlea Waterfall, the Transfăgărășan, and the onward journey towards Curtea de Argeș.

Do you know the Ice Hotel at Balea Lake? Not yet... then it’s time for a trip this coming winter 🥰

https://www.hotelofice.ro

The hotel is rebuilt every year (planned opening December 23, 2025) and simply melts away again in early summer 😅. Due to its location (at 2,034 meters, Fagaras Mountains, Sibiu County), cold and long winters are guaranteed, and besides the wonderful winter landscape, it is another highlight of this region.

Balea Lake can be reached by cable car / gondola (3.7 km, Monday to Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.). The starting point for the cable car is Balea Waterfall (Cabana Balea Cascada). The hotel usually opens in mid / late December and has a season of about 4 months (depending on the weather and winter conditions).
