The Valcan Pass is located in Hunedoara County in the Jiu Valley.

It sits on a plateau of the western group of the Southern Carpathians, in the eastern part of the Valcan Mountains at an altitude of 1,621 meters. The nearby town of Vulcan (approximately 25,000 inhabitants) is named after this pass. The highest peak in this mountain range is Valcan Peak at 1,946 meters.

Vâlcan Pass is located in the Southern Carpathians in the eastern part of the Vâlcan Mountains at an altitude of 1,621 meters and connects the Petroșani Depression and the Târgu Jiu - Câmpu Sub-Carpathian Depression. It is the transition / border between Hunedoara and Gorj counties in western Romania.
