St. Nicholas the Great Church in Iasi is an Orthodox church.

It was built by Stephen the Great in 1491 and 1492 and rebuilt between 1884 and 1904 by the French architect André Lecomte du Noüy by demolishing and rebuilding it on the same foundations and approximately in its original form.

Măcin Mountains are a mountain range in Tulcea county, in the historical landscape of Dobrogea in Romania.

As part of the northern Dobrogea massif, they lie between the Danube and also the Black Sea. The highest altitude is called Tutuiatul Peak and is 467 meters high. Culmea Pricopanului (pictured) is about 20 km east of the city of Brăila.

Alba Iulia is located in the Transylvania region, close to Sebes and Sibiu (approx. 75 km).

With a long, eventful past, it is certainly one of the oldest cities in Romania and – with currently around 60,000 inhabitants – definitely worth a visit.

The fortified church of Richiș is located in the municipality of Biertan, in the county of Sibiu and was built as a monastery in the second half of the 14th century (14th century: 01.01.1301 to 31.12.1400). Around 1400, this monastery was transformed into a fortified Catholic church and completed in 1451 (picture).

Today the visitor encounters an Evangelical Lutheran church, a real treasure, which gradually reveals itself to the visitor. The interior of the church is rich in unique zoomorphic motifs (representations in animal, animal-like forms) and plant motifs.

The swallowtail (Macroglossum stellatarum) suggests at first glance by its extremely rapid wing beats (up to 80 beats per second) that you have a hummingbird in mind, but it’s actually a butterfly (hawk moth family).

This moth is found from Spain to Japan along the entire east-west length of the Palearctic*… ours are from Galati (a city in south-eastern Romania) so they probably speak fluent Romanian.

*The Palearctic region, also known as the Palearctica, refers to an Old World zoogeographic region of biogeography that traditionally includes Europe, North Africa, and Asia (excluding the front and back India and the southern part of the Arabian Peninsula) and the islands off their coasts. areas (source: Wikipedia).

Historical documents show that the ancestors of today’s horse population in the Danube delta came there 300 to 400 years ago through the Tatars, made it their home and became increasingly wild.

In the north-eastern delta (Tulcea county), between the arms of the Chilia and Sulina rivers, is the Letea Forest (in Romanian: Letea Forest), which covers an area of more than 5,000 hectares (50,000,000 m2). It is the northernmost subtropical forest in Europe, the oldest nature reserve in Romania and home to these horses.

Timisoara is located in western Romania, close to the Hungarian border. Timișoara can be reached by highway (in D: A3) from the D/A border in just 8 hours. Timișoara is the capital and largest city of Timiș county in the historic Banat region. The name comes from the Timiș river, which the Romans called Tibisis or Tibiscus in ancient times.

Gura (German: mouth) Portitei is a unique place in Europe where the Black Sea and the Danube Delta meet.

It is situated on a narrow strip of sand between the Black Sea and the Goloveni estuary in the Danube Delta and is part of the Jurilovca commune in the Tulcea district.

Initially a fishing village, Gura Portitei (Portita) is now known as one of the most isolated (and still relatively quiet) tourist destinations on the Romanian coast. Access is usually by boat from Jurilovca. The area is part of the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve.

The church is located in the municipality of Biertan in Sibiu county in Transylvania. Biertan is one of the first German-Saxon settlements and was mentioned in a document in 1398 (other sources: 1402).

Like any Saxon settlement, it is characterized by a number of villages around a central square, above which rises the imposing church fortress. Between 1572 and 1867, Biertan was the seat of the Saxon bishopric (Episcopal See of the Evangelical Church A.B.), which fostered the building of one of the largest agricultural communities in Transylvania around this fortified church. It is a medieval and architectural treasure in Romania that is definitely worth a visit.

Situate în comuna Bănița, județul Hunedoara, cheile se desfășoară de-a lungul pereților înalți de calcar. Au aproximativ 300 de metri lungime și au fost săpate adânc în calcar de apă. În zilele liniștite de vară aceștia pot fi vizitați, încălțămintea impermeabilă fiind o necesitate deoarece poteca în chei trece și prin apă.

Înălțimea fețelor de stâncă este de aproximativ 10-15 metri și arată modul în care apa a erodat stânca. În multe locuri, rocile formează un acoperiș format prin eroziune orizontală de-a lungul a sute de ani, ca răspuns la curenți.

Mount (Peak) Gropșoarele is located in the Ciucaș Mountains in central Romania, Muntenia region. The peak reaches a height of 1,883 meters.

The Ciucaș Mountains are a mountain range located in the northern part of Prahova County and bordering Brasov County. The highest peak is Vârful Ciucaș with 1,954 meters. Other peaks are Mount Gropșoare at 1,883 meters, Mount Tigăile Mari at 1,844 meters and Mount Zăganu at 1,817 meters.

In Ilfov County, just a few kilometers north-west of Bucharest (Romania’s capital), Mogoșoaia Castle is located on the shores of Lake Mogoșoaia in Mogoșoaia. The castle contains a main courtyard and many buildings such as the watchtower and the church ′′Sf. Gheorghe′′ near the courtyard.

Wallachian Prince Constantin Brâncoveanu built the castle between 1698 and 1702 on the widow Mogoș (later named Mogoșoaia) in the Brâncoveanu style named after him.

In 1714, when Constantin Brâncoveanu was executed in Constantinople with his entire family, the Ottomans confiscated all the family possessions and turned the palace into a Han (a kind of inn). In the following decades, the castle was conquered, destroyed and rebuilt several times, until it was owned by George III in 1912 Valentin Bibesco married the French writer Marthe Bibesco, who was born into Romanian nobility. He gave the property to his wife, Marthe Bibesco then rebuilt the castle intensively.

The castle can be visited without entrance fee, it has a wonderful large park where you can / are allowed, for example, to have a picnic or just laze the day away. Inside the castle you pay a fee of approx. 10 lei (2,10 euro) for parking, restaurants, museums and much more… also an extended walk with the rest on a bench overlooking the lake… many things are possible and beautiful.

Warning… you should not take the camera with you or put it in your pocket!!!! Cell phone pictures are no problem, but as a ‘camera owner’ you are already vehemently advised at the entrance that for professional photography you have to pay a fee of 400 Lei (approx. EUR 80).

Cărturești Carusel bookstore is much more than a “bookstore”. It’s located in the historic center of Bucharest and covers six floors with a total surface area of 1,000 square meters.

A bistro upstairs, a multimedia room on the ground floor and a contemporary art gallery on the first floor are inviting and fun to look at, decorate, sit and also shop.

The elegant 19th-century building (1903) came into the possession of the famous Chrissoveloni banking family, then confiscated in communist times and turned into a business. After 1990, the building was brought back to life by the current owner Jean Chrissoveloni, in cooperation with the architectural firm Square One.

Putna Monastery is located about 70 kilometers from the city of Suceava, in the county of the same name.

It now belongs to a group of Romanian Orthodox monasteries – the Moldavian monasteries – in southern Bucovina.

The monastery was built between 1466 and 1469 and consecrated in 1470. In the monastery’s museum there are many valuable manuscripts, maps, paintings, icons, linen cloths and other church objects from the 15th century. Of particular note are the self-portrait of Stephen’s second wife, Maria von Mangop, and the skull of St. Ghenadie.

The Oravița – Lisava – Anina railway (in Caras-Severin county) was established on December 15, 1863 and was inaugurated as the first mountain railway in Romania.

The construction started in 1861 and was a difficult engineering work, as the train is located in a mountainous region (western part of the Banater Mountains). The 33.4 km-long railway line has no less than 14 tunnels with a total length of 2.1 km and nine viaducts.

The route starts at Oravița and then climbs to the high level of the Semenic Mountains on a route where there is no other road.

Many tourists arrive by their own car or rent a car at the airport and are … perhaps a bit overwhelmed by the parking situation in Romanian cities. So here are some tips and information.

Relaxed parking in Brăila Relaxed parking in Brăila .
The city of Brăila is located in south-eastern Romania and has about 150,000 inhabitants. In fact, there are always enough parking spaces even in the city center and … all parking spaces in the city of Brăila are free.

Neighboring city Galati … not so relaxed
The city of Galati is also in the south-east of Romania and is the neighboring city of Brăila, with about 300 000 inhabitants. In many parts of the city (the city center, but also in the outlying areas), parking is paid (Monday to Saturday, between 8am and 8pm every day). Payment can be made via a parking machine on site or by SMS (a Romanian phone number is required). IMPORTANT: On average, it takes a short time before you will find a fancy yellow or orange immobilizer on your front wheel unless you have redeemed your parking ticket. Depending on the time of day, 200 or 300 lei (approx. 40 or 60 euros) are then up for grabs.

Kronstadt (Brasov), take/plan time for your search.
In or near the center of Brasov, it’s not easy to find a parking space at almost any time of the day. There are few parking spaces and, due to many restrictions (one-way streets), it can take some time to find a parking space. You really shouldn’t rush here! There is a fee for parking (Monday through Saturday, 8am to 8pm) and you can pay via an on-site parking machine (usually only for an hour or two) or via an app (also 24 hours/day). And in Brasov there are paid parking spaces all over the city, so always look out for the appropriate signs.

Timisoara, European Capital of Culture 2023 … modernity
First of all, parking spaces in the city center are also taxed, but here the search for “bad parking offenders” is done in a very modern way. With the help of a specially purchased and equipped camera car, which regularly checks the streets and squares, the parking ticket is issued in no time. The camera car drives through the streets and registers all parked cars / license plate numbers, compares in real time whether a parking ticket has been redeemed and … we don’t know this, but we assume … immediately issues a fine to those who park “badly”.

Bucharest … without words
Parking in Bucharest is easy, either in the hotel parking lot or 20 km outside the city Anyone who has ever been on the road in Bucharest by car will quickly notice … you need a lot of time, patience and also a certain calmness to the driving style, which is similar here to some Italian cities. In many parts of the city, downtown, shopping centers and more, traffic is usually quite slow (Navi: In 800 meters you have reached your destination. Estimated travel time: 48 minutes). Parking spaces are paid and can usually be paid on the spot, by SMS (Romanian phone number required) or by app. Depending on the neighborhood (old town), however, it is very, very difficult or extremely expensive (300 lei (60 euro) for 24 hours) to find a parking space in a “private parking”. Our advice is therefore clear. Look for a hotel with free parking and walk or use a taxi / Uber or buses / metro. Worth it!

In the countryside and small towns
Here it is almost always very relaxed, Park, point and end However, please however always look out for any signs (usually near sightseeing/trip destinations). There may also be a charge there.

Râșnov Fortress (German: Rosenauer Burg) is a historical monument and landmark in Romania. It is located in Râșnov (Rosenau), Brasov County, approx. 20 km from the city of Brasov (Kronstadt).

The fortress was built as part of a defense system for the Sieburg villages. Today’s medieval fortress was probably built between 1211 and 1225 during the reign of the German Burzenland knights.

The fortress is currently being renovated (photos as of 08.01.2022) and access to the interior is therefore not possible.

Râșnov Fortress (German: Rosenauer Burg) is a historical monument and landmark in Romania. It is located in Râșnov (Rosenau), Brasov County, approx. 20 km from the city of Brasov (Kronstadt).

The fortress was built as part of a defense system for the Sieburg villages. Today’s medieval fortress was probably built between 1211 and 1225 during the reign of the German Burzenland knights.

The fortress is currently being renovated (photos as of 08.01.2022) and access to the interior is therefore not possible.

The “Bridge of Lies” is one of Sibiu’s most famous landmarks. Built in 1859* in Friedrichshütte in Hesse, this was the first cast-iron bridge in all of Romania (and the second in all of Europe).

There are several legends about its name, but as it was also the first bridge not resting on piers, it was called “Liegebrücke”… and the word “Lügenbrücke” wasn’t that far off.

Lugoj (in Hungarian Lugos, in German Lugosch) is a municipality in Timiș county in the historical Banat region. It consists of the city of Lugoj and the villages of Maguri and Tapia.

The Church of the Assumption, also known as the “Church with two towers”, is a Romanian Orthodox church located in Victoriei Square in Lugoj, the church was built between 1759 and 1766 in Baroque style. It is one of the most remarkable baroque buildings in Banat.

Lake Ochiul Beiului is located in the Cheile Nerei-Beușnița National Park in south-western Romania (Caras-Severin County), close to the border with Serbia and the villages of Deutsch-Orawitz (Oravița) and Stiria (in the east-west or east, respectively).

It is up to 3.6 meters deep and about 15 meters in diameter. The fairy-tale green-blue water never freezes in winter, as the lake is permanently supplied with water from a spring.

Constanta, a city in southeastern Romania, located on the Black Sea, with a history of over 2,000 years … and the most famous and popular spa region in Romania.

Fundata is located in Brasov county in Transylvania.

Situated at an altitude of 1,360 meters, Fundata is the highest village in Romania. It is situated in the middle of the route between Bran and Rucar, close to the Bucegi Mountains and Piatra Craiului.

Composer and poet Anton Pann first visited the city of Râmnicu Vâlcea, Vâlcea County, in 1826. Anton Pann worked as a music teacher at the Bishopric of Râmnic, cantor at the Buna Vestire Church in the center of the city and also a translator.

The memorial house in the center shows a mid-19th century house with pieces of furniture (sofa, bookcase, table, chairs), various decorative objects from sewing machine, brass, alpaca and many others.

The Apuseni Mountains (Romanian: Munții Apuseni, Hungarian: Erdélyi-középhegység) is a mountain range in Transylvania, belonging to the Western Carpathian Mountains of Romania.

The highest peak is Vârful de Bihor at 1,849 meters (1,849 ft), and the Apuseni Mountains are also home to about 400 caves.

The castle built by Gheorghe Grigore Cantacuzino in 1911 in the town of Busteni (Prahova County) rises majestically at an altitude of 1,000 meters, right in front of the Bucegi Mountains, 2,500 meters.

The castle’s large park of 6 hectares (60,000 m2) invites you to linger and is today one of the most visited tourist attractions in the Prahova Valley. The castle, sculpture park and terrace, with their breathtaking views, attract thousands of visitors every year.

Tismana este un oraș mic din Țara Românească, România, în județul Gorj, în sud-vestul României. Acest oraș este cunoscut pentru mănăstirea ortodoxă română Tismana, cea mai veche mănăstire care a supraviețuit din Țara Românească.

Aici a fost construită o mănăstire de către domnitorul Radu al II-lea în 1377, care a fost reconstruită în 1495 (de vreme ce căzuse în paragină). Orașul (Tismana este oraș din 2004) a crescut în jurul mănăstirii în secolele XV/XVI și este acum un important centru românesc al industriei lemnului.

In Geoagiu-Băi, approx. 45 km northeast of Deva in Hunedora County is the excavation site of the Roman Baths (a former Roman thermal bath) and the Roman Daco-Roman Baths (a new thermal bath, which is now used for treatments).

Geoagiu-Bai is a balneoclimatic resort (Balneo therapy) first documented in 1805 The ozonized air, which is constantly invigorated by mountain breezes, is recommended, among other things, for treating diseases of the nervous system, fatigue, overwork, anemia and neurosis.

The Roman-Catholic Church of St. Peter and Paul in Brasov was built in the second half of the 18th century, according to the plans of architect Karl Joseph Lamasch.

The church is the only Baroque building in the city. The altar is made of wood and gilded, the stained-glass windows were made in Budapest, and the organ comes from Timișoara. The church houses statues of St. Peter, St. Paul, St. Anne and St. Anthony of Padua.

The priest Ignatius Wagensei asked Empress Maria Theresa for support for the construction of this place of worship, and construction work began in the summer of 1776. In 1787 the church was consecrated by the Bishop of Transylvania, Ignatius Batthyany.

The town of Băile Herculane (Herculesbad in German, Herculesfürd. in Hungarian) is a resort in the county of Caras-Severin in the historical region of Banat.

Over a length of four kilometers 16 thermal springs of different mineral composition are used.

Among the monuments and structures worth seeing are the bronze statue of Hercules (1847), the spa museum with archaeological finds from Roman times, the Roman baths (Hotel Roman on the ground floor), the casino (1913) and the Austrian baths (between 1883 and 1886 after being built according to the plans of architect Carl Wilhelm von Doderer).

Salina Turda is a real museum of the history of salt mining. It is located in the town of Turda, which belongs to Cluj county.

The temperature in the salt is constant at 10-12 degrees. It is one of the oldest and most famous salt mines in Transylvania.

From late March/early April you can see storks moving around in many, many villages in south-eastern Romania.

Almost every mast, no matter how daring the cable construction (fiber optics for internet, where are you in Germany?), is inhabited with a nest. By early June (pictures from 2020) the “little ones” are already quite big and soon we’ll be on the road again…

The village of Bârsana (old spelling Bîrsana) is located in Maramureș county. Situated in a beautiful landscape, Bârsana has tourist attractions such as the wooden church “The Entry of the Mother of God into the Church” built around 1720 in the center of the village.

The monastery of Bârsana on the southeastern outskirts was first mentioned in 1390, but was abandoned and demolished around 1800. The buildings on the site today were rebuilt at a later date in wooden construction. Today there is a convent of Romanian Orthodox nuns there.

Zgurăști Cave (part of a cave system in the Bihor Mountains) is located in the village of Garda de Sus in Alba County in Romania, on the steep slope of the Ordancusei Valley at an altitude of just over 900 meters.

Salina Târgu Ocna is located in the resort of Târgu Ocna in the county of Bacau. It is the third largest salt mine and one of the oldest salt mines in Romania, hosting the largest respiratory disease treatment facility in the country, the Trotuș mine at a depth of 240 m. Also in this mine is one of the few places of worship in Romania, which were built in the salt pans and dedicated to St. Varvara.

The salt mine is still used today for the extraction, processing and marketing of salt in Romania and abroad. Between 90,000 and 120,000 tons of salt are extracted annually.

Salina Târgu Ocna is one of the oldest salt mines in Romania and is mentioned in documents from 1502 and listed as a salt extraction area since at least 1353.

Galati is a county municipality in the Moldavian region of southeastern Romania. It was visited by royal families and was one of the richest cities in Romania.

Today, near Brăila, it is a well-known port city and definitely worth a visit. In addition to the Botanical Gardens, the zoo, many parks and museums, churches and much more, the 2 km long waterfront offers a wonderful view over the Danube, where in some places it is up to 900 meters wide.

Visit the Brukenthal Castle/Palace in Avrig, Sibiu county on April 17 for an Easter egg hunt and/or indulge in a special Easter menu (Meniu des Paste) at the local restaurant on Easter weekend.

The Museum of Traditional Folk Culture in Sibiu is one of the largest open-air museums in Romania.

Located just south of Sibiu (Hermannstadt in German), the museum is located in the “Dumbrava Sibiului” forest, on the road connecting Sibiu and Rășinari, about three (3) kilometers from the city.

It contains installations of the traditional Romanian pre-industrial folk civilization. Houses, workshops and groups of buildings are scattered around a lake among the trees of Dumbrăvii Sibiu.

The palace of Prince Alexandru Ioan Cuza in Ruginoasa (about 60 km west of Iasi, in Iasi county) was built in 1804 in neo-Gothic style.

It was originally owned by the Sturdza family and is now a museum.

Just 18 km west of Sighetu Marmatiei is the “Merry Cemetery”, one of the most visited tourist attractions in the Maramureș region.

The crosses painted by local artisans are preserved in a vibrant, predominantly blue color.

The idea for the cemetery originated in 1935 and comes from the woodcarver Stan Ioan Patras. He wanted to create a cemetery, unique in Romania, which would portray the life and personality of the deceased in a cheerful portrayal. Each cross features a carved image at the top, representing a special moment in the life of the deceased. Below, humorous short poems or rhymed texts describe the life of the person buried there.

The shoemakers’ tower, first mentioned in documents in 1522, was rebuilt in 1681 after the fire of 1676 and has the shape of a hexagonal prism with unequal sides.

The jagged roof with two observation towers on the south and north sides gives it a distinctive appearance. The stone tablet with the oldest coat of arms of the town and the motto “Nomen Domini, turris fortissima” (in translation: The name of God is the strongest castle), which is kept in the History Museum in the town of Sighisoara (Schäßburg in German), comes from this tower.

After World War II, the appearance of the tower underwent some changes. The windows were widened and the entrance modified, as was the exterior staircase added in later years.

A wonderful sight, the Cathedral of Curtea de Argeș (built in 1517) is a Romanian Orthodox cathedral in Curtea de Argeș, Argeș County, in the central-eastern part of Romania.

It is located on the grounds of the Curtea de Argeș Monastery and is dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary (Maria Adormirii Maicii Domnului). The cathedral is clad in light gray limestone. The interior is made of brick, plastered and decorated with frescoes.

The garden, also called Grădina Banpotoc, is located east of the city of Deva (in German Diemrich), on the left side of the A1 highway (direction Sibiu), in the Banpotoc neighborhood of the municipality of Hârlău.

Károlyi Castle is a neo-Gothic-neo-Baroque palace complex in the town of Carei (Gross Karol in German, Nagykároly in Hungarian) in the county of Satu Mare in north-western Romania. It was once the ancestral seat of the Hungarian noble family Károlyi von Nagykároly.

The castle with its gardens and museums is open to visitors and hosts several exhibitions.

Brief history:
The origins of the castle lie in a stone house built in 1482 by Láncz László Károlyi Károlyi with the permission of King Matthias. Due to its strategic position, the fortress was part of the fortification system used against the Turks in the 17th century, after the fortifications were extended in 1661 and 1666.

This fortress was demolished by József Károlyi in 1794 to build a Baroque-style castle designed by Joseph Bitthauser in its place. There were also several towers of various shapes and sizes. The inner courtyard was covered with a solid wooden ceiling and thus transformed into a reception hall. A moat was also built around the castle.

Bolboci Lake (also called “The Sea of Bucegilor”) is an artificial reservoir of the Ialomita River in the Bucegi Mountains.

The lake and a cottage of the same name are located about 8 km from Sinaia and 10 km (about 2 hours walk) from Pestera Ialomitei.

The nature reserve is located in the eastern part of the Bihor Mountains (the mountain group of the Apuseni Mountains, which belong to the Western Carpathian mountain range) in the north-western part of Alba county and is home to numerous caves, including the Poarta lui Ionele cave.

From Arieseni follow DN 75 to the center of Garda de Sus. From there turn left and after about 1 km turn right again at the first crossroads to Poarta lui Ionele and the Ordancusii Gorges. The gorges stretch for 4 kilometers in a picturesque landscape with impressive rock formations that invite you to hike also to the nearby Scărișoara glacier.

The clock tower is the landmark of Schäßburg (Sighisoara) and a popular movie and photo object day and night.

Stavropoleos Monastery is an Orthodox monastery in the center of Bucharest, the capital of Romania.

It was built in 1724 in the Brâncoveanu style by the Greek monk Ioanichie Stratonikeas and is considered one of the most beautiful and significant architectural monuments of the Romanian capital. The church is dedicated to Saints Archangels Michael and Gabriel.

The Botanical Garden of Galati, images from yesterday… Spring is slowly coming back.

The Botanical Garden of Galati (a city in south-eastern Romania) is always worth a visit. In addition to a wide variety of plants and flowers, there is also an aquarium, a natural history museum and much more. Admission is 7 lei for adults (approx. 1.40 euro) and 3 lei for children (60 cents).

Also highly recommended is the “Rosarium” with lots of different kinds of roses in June.

The Dobrogea Caves are a nature sanctuary (especially a bird sanctuary here) in Dobrogea, Constanta County.

Dobrudscha (Dobrogea) is a historic landscape in south-eastern Europe between the sublime Danube and the Black Sea, forming the border area between south-eastern Romania and north-eastern Bulgaria.

A magical route in and through the Făgăraș Mountains. The Transfăgărășan road links the two historic regions of Wallachia and Transylvania in a breathtaking mountain landscape.

Depending on snow conditions, this road is usually open from mid to late June. However, you can visit Lake Balea (which is currently still covered in snow) all year round by cable car.

A delicious breakfast, lunch or dinner and a perfect ambience to have a wonderful time are waiting for the guests of the restaurant/café.

Exactly one year ago (2021), in August we were here, it was hot, very hot (32-38 degrees, like now) and the water was wonderfully fresh. Our destination was again Vama Veche, the southernmost place on the Romanian Black Sea coast, just a few hundred meters from the Bulgarian border.

The Romanian bathing coast stretches for about 70 km and, in addition to Vama Veche, includes places such as Constanța, Mamaia, Mamaia-Sat, Eforie Nord and Sud, Constinești, Olimp, Neptun, Mangalia and others. Vama Veche is visited primarily by a younger crowd, it’s the party mile, in other words the “Malle” of Romania with about 3 – 4,000 visitors on weekends and non-stop loud music (in 2021 clubs had 2:00 to 5:00 AM stationary, but that didn’t stop anyone. The party started at 2:00 a.m. on the beach and at 5:00 a.m. we continued where we stopped at 2:00 a.m. … sometimes again until 9 or 10 a.m. in the morning).

Porumbacu de Jos is a municipality in Sibiu county (German: Hermannstadt) in the Transylvania region of Romania. The place is located halfway between Făgăraș (German: Fogarasch or Fugreschmarkt) and Sibiu and is also known by the German names Unterforrembach and Unterporumbach.

Sighișoara (in German Schä ßburg) is a town in the Mureș Land, Sevenburg region of Romania.

Schäßburg became in the second half of the 12. Founded centuries by German immigrants, the seventh citizen of Saxony. In 1280 it was first mentioned in detail. In 1435 the Romanian name of the town “Sigisošoara” appeared for the first time in writing.

The Black Church is a Gothic church in the Transylvanian city of Brasov (German: Kronstadt).

It was originally consecrated as the Catholic Church of the Virgin Mary. With the Reformation in Transylvania, which was largely driven from the Transyleno-Saxon population by the reformer and later pastor of Brasov, Johannes Honterus, the Catholic patron was abandoned. The Black Church took its present name after a fire in the town in 1689.

The Basilica of the Assumption in Cacica, Suceava County, is a Roman-Catholic church built in 1904 by the Polish community of the locality.

It was built in neo-Gothic style and is 40 meters long, 23 meters wide and the tower is 50 meters high.

AKASHA Wellness Retreat is situated in one of the most majestic mountains and untouched nature reserves in Romania. Just around the corner are Bran Castle, Dracula Castle, made famous by the writer Bram Stoker, and the mystical Bucegi Mountains with the natural rock formation Sphinx.

Some call it the ‘village in the clouds’, and indeed it is. At an altitude of over 1,000 meters, the landscape here is a sea of rolling green hills overlooking the Piatra Craiului massif (2,200 meters).

The Retezat Mountains are located in Hunedoara county and represent the westernmost part of the Southern Carpathians.

Sighișoara (German: Schäßburg) is a town in Mureș county in the Transylvania region of Romania.

Schäßburg was founded in the second half of the 12th century by German immigrants, the Transylvanian Saxons. It was first mentioned in a document in 1280. In 1435, the Romanian name of the town “Sigisoara”, borrowed from Hungarian, appears in writing for the first time.

Marienburg in Feldioara (the Romanian name of the place of the same name Marienburg) is a medieval order castle of the Teutonic Order in the Transylvanian region of Brasov County.

It offers a beautiful view of the surrounding area and the mountains of Brasov (German name: Kronstadt), is located about 20 kilometers from Brasov on the road to Sighisoara (German: Schäßburg) and was built on a hill (almost 500 meters above sea level) .NN) high.

In 1211, King Andrew II of Hungary called the Teutonic knights into the country to support the Cumans in securing the eastern border of his growing kingdom. The king granted them numerous privileges, including immunity, the right of self-government and the building of stone fortresses to secure the area. In 1838 the site of Marienburg (Romanian name: Feldioara) with Marienburg in Ordensburg was severely destroyed by an earthquake. Between 2013 and 2017, the castle ruins were renovated and largely rebuilt.

Măgura is a village in Brasov county and is part of Moieciu municipality. It is located on the eastern side of the Piatra Craiului Mountains, about six kilometers west of Bran Castle.

also known as Lake Bâlea is a glacial lake in the Romanian Carpathians. It is located in the Făgăraș Mountains on the Transfogarasch (Transfăgărașan) highway between the Negoiu and Moldoveanu mountains.

The lake is located in Sibiu county and is about 80 km from the city of Sibiu (germannstadt) and approx. 70 km from the town of Făgăraș (German Fogaraș or Fugresch Square).

The Făgăraș Mountains are located in Romania’s southern Carpathian mountain range. It is crossed by the Transfagaras highway. The ridge is about 70 km long and 40 km wide. The mountains cover an area of almost 2,000 km² and range in height from 350 to 2,544 meters (the peak of Moldoveanu, west of Brasov (Kronstadt).

The Church of St. Nicholas in Densuș (Demsdorf), Hunedoara county in western Romania is the oldest stone church in the country. It was built in its present form in the 13th century on the site of a 2nd-century Roman temple using materials from the Dacian fortress of Sarmizegetusa. There are 15th-century murals in the church, showing Jesus in traditional Romanian clothes.

According to Romanian historians, there was once a Dacian temple on the site of today’s church, which was built for the god Zamolxis. Later conquered by the Romans, they again built a temple there, which was dedicated to the god Mars. Given its later prehistory, the origins of this church in Densuș date back to the 4th century AD and is therefore the oldest church in Romania and south-eastern Europe.

The fortified church of Richiș is located in the municipality of Biertan, in the county of Sibiu and was built as a monastery in the second half of the 14th century (14th century: 01.01.1301 to 31.12.1400). Around 1400, this monastery was transformed into a fortified Catholic church and completed in 1451 (picture).

Today the visitor encounters an Evangelical Lutheran church, a real treasure, which gradually reveals itself to the visitor. The interior of the church is rich in unique zoomorphic motifs (representations in animal, animal-like forms) and plant motifs.

The village of Bârsana (old spelling Bîrsana) is located in Maramureș county. Situated in a beautiful landscape, Bârsana has tourist attractions such as the wooden church “The Entry of the Mother of God into the Church” built around 1720 in the center of the village.

Monastery Monastery Monastery of Bararsana on the southeastern outskirts was first mentioned in 1390, but was abandoned and demolished around 1800. The buildings on the site today were rebuilt at a later date in wooden construction. Today there is a convent of Romanian Orthodox nuns there.

The city of Craiova (also Krajowa) is the largest city in the historical region of Wallachia and the residence of Dolj County.

It lies about 220 kilometers west of Bucharest, in the low plains of the Romanian Lands, on the left bank of the Jiu (Schil) River. In the area of today’s town there existed from about 400-350 BC a settlement in Dakish called pelendava. Early 2nd century BC they camped here. The remains of this Roman castle have been excavated in the Craiova area.

The Danube Strait, also called the Iron Gate, is located near / in the municipality of Dubova, Mehedinți County, in the historical region of Banat.

The Izvorul Muntelui Reservoir is located on the central part of the Bistrița River in the Eastern Carpathians of Romania, 4 km upstream from the town of Bicaz.

The lake, also known as Lake Bicaz, is the largest artificial lake in the Romanian interior. It was created from the construction of the hydroelectric power plant of the same name between 1950 and 1960 and has a water surface area of about 35 square kilometers.
