Ride the steam locomotive again
(25 February 2021)
The word “Mocăniță” – a magic word for every fan of the steam locomotive, but also for the eyes of children all over Europe. Locomotives from the last 100 years invite you to drive through the wonderful landscapes.
The feeling of the old times, as we (in D and A) had it a long time ago … can still be experienced right in Romania, in the county of Maramureș. Locomotives run regularly in spring, summer and fall, with two locomotives currently in service … Mariuta and Cozia-2. The first locomotive was built in 1910 at the Orenstein & Koppel works in Berlin, the second in 1921 in Linz, Austria.

Dragobete – Valentine’s Day in Romania
(24 February 2021)
Dragobete is a traditional Romanian holiday celebrated on February 24 (today). Dragobete was the son of Baba Dochia, who is the main character in the myth of the arrival of spring and the end of the harsh winter. Because of his endless goodness, he was chosen to be the guardian of love.
The day is especially known as “the day when birds are engaged”. This is the time when birds start to build nests and mate. On this day, which is considered to be the first day of spring in the locality, boys and girls gather spring flowers and sing together. The girls collect the snow lying on the ground in many villages and then melt it, using the water in potions for the rest of the year.

Fortified Church / fortified church in Biertan
(18 February 2021)
The church is located in the municipality of Biertan in Sibiu county in Transylvania. Biertan is one of the first German-Saxon settlements and was mentioned in a document in 1398 (other sources: 1402).
Like any Saxon settlement, it stands out thanks to a string of villages around a central square above which rises the imposing church fortress. Between 1572 and 1867, Biertan was the seat of the Saxon bishopric (Episcopal See of the Evangelical Church A.B.), which fostered the building of one of the largest agricultural communities in Transylvania around this fortified church. It is a medieval and architectural treasure in Romania that is definitely worth a visit. Find out more …

The fortress / castle of Rupea (first mentioned in 1324, German name: Burg Reps) is located near the town of the same name Rupea, which is halfway between Brasov and Sighisoara, in the northern part of Brasov county.

Later, the inhabitants added three defense towers and two courtyards to the first building, which served as shelters. Romania’s haunted forest, Hoia Baciu
(12 February 2021)
Just outside Cluj-Napoca, in northwest Romania, lies the Hoia Baciu forest area, one of the most visited forests in the world, also known as the Romanian Bermuda Triangle. Why? Over the decades there have been thousands of reports of paranormal activity, disturbances in the mobile network, sightings of balls of light and ghosts, as well as missing animals, people and more …
The Hoia Baciu Forest takes its name from a shepherd in the region who disappeared in the forest with his flock of sheep. One story tells of a five-year-old girl who went into the forest and five years later came back wearing the same clothes and not looking a day older. Many other stories revolve around a clearing in which nothing grows, and although scientists have examined the land and found that all is well. The forest is a fascinating and unique place to visit or hike.
And whether you’re looking for the supernatural … or even after an exciting hike, this forest is worth a visit.
