The town of Băile Herculane (Herculesbad in German, Herculesfürd. in Hungarian) is a resort in the county of Caras-Severin in the historical region of Banat.

Over a length of four kilometers 16 thermal springs of different mineral composition are used.

Among the monuments and structures worth seeing are the bronze statue of Hercules (1847), the spa museum with archaeological finds from Roman times, the Roman baths (Hotel Roman on the ground floor), the casino (1913) and the Austrian baths (between 1883 and 1886 after being built according to the plans of architect Carl Wilhelm von Doderer).

Mracunei Valley Monastery is located in the area of the Danube Road (Cazanele Mici) in the Iron Gates Natural Park in Mehedinți County.

This natural park is situated in Mehedinți county in south-western Romania.

Pictures of “King Michael I of Romania Park” (in German König Michael I. von Rumänien Park), called Herăstrău Park until 2017. It is the largest park in Bucharest and is located in the north of the city.

Mount (Peak) Gropșoarele is located in the Ciucaș Mountains in central Romania, Muntenia region. The peak reaches a height of 1,883 meters.

The Ciucaș Mountains are a mountain range located in the northern part of Prahova County and bordering Brasov County. The highest peak is Vârful Ciucaș with 1,954 meters. Other peaks are Mount Gropșoare at 1,883 meters, Mount Tigăile Mari at 1,844 meters and Mount Zăganu at 1,817 meters.

Botoșani (Botoshan or Bottushan in German) is the birthplace of many Romanian poets and thinkers. The poet Mihai Eminescu, the composer George Enescu, the painter Stefan Luchian, the mathematician Octav Onicescu and many others were born here.

Botoșani is the residence of the county of the same name, has about 100,000 inhabitants and is an oasis of greenery with many historic buildings, surrounded by the Eastern Crapul and neighboring Moldova and Ukraine.

Located in the commune of Bănița, Hunedoara County, the gorges run along high limestone walls. They are about 300 meters long and have been dug deep into the limestone. On calm summer days they can be visited, waterproof footwear is a must as the path in the quays also passes through water.

The height of the rock faces is about 10-15 meters and show how the water has eroded the rock. In many places the rocks form a roof formed by horizontal erosion over hundreds of years in response to currents.

Prislop Monastery is located near the village of Silvasu de Sus in Hunedoara County. The monastery church dates back to the 16th century. In 1564 the monastery was built by Zamfira, the daughter of Moise Vodă Vodă from Wallachia.

St. John of Prislop lived here in the 17th century. In the 18th century it was a Greek-Catholic monastery. In the 19th century it was almost abandoned and administered by a few priests. Bishop Demetriu Radu restored the monastery in 1901. After 1975, the monastery was rebuilt as an Orthodox monastery with a congregation of nuns.

In Sarichioi… no one knows it, but the church somehow looks great and in May 2020 we got “lost” there by chance.

Sarichioi is located 35 km from Tulcea, right on Lake Razim and therefore practically on the Black Sea.

Károlyi Castle is a neo-Gothic-neo-Baroque palace complex in the town of Carei (Gross Karol in German, Nagykároly in Hungarian) in the county of Satu Mare in north-western Romania. It was once the ancestral seat of the Hungarian noble family Károlyi von Nagykároly.

The castle with its gardens and museums is open to visitors and hosts several exhibitions.

Brief history:
The origins of the castle lie in a stone house built in 1482 by Láncz László Károlyi Károlyi with the permission of King Matthias. Because of its strategic position, the fortress was part of the fortification system used against the Turks in the 17th century, after the fortifications were extended in 1661 and 1666.

This fortress was demolished by József Károlyi in 1794 to build a Baroque-style castle designed by Joseph Bitthauser in its place. There were also several towers of various shapes and sizes. The inner courtyard was covered with a solid wooden ceiling and thus transformed into a reception hall. A moat was also built around the castle.

A wonderful picture, Curtea de Argeș Cathedral (built in 1517) is a Romanian Orthodox cathedral in Curtea de Argeș, Argeș county in the central-eastern part of Romania.

It is located on the grounds of the Curtea de Argeș Monastery and is dedicated to the Adoration of the Assumption (Adormirii Adormiirea Maica Maicii Domnului), the Mother of God. The cathedral is clad in light gray limestone. The interior is brick, plastered and decorated with frescoes.

Cărturești Carusel bookstore is much more than a “bookstore”. It’s located in the historic center of Bucharest and covers six floors with a total surface area of 1,000 square meters.

A bistro upstairs, a multimedia room on the ground floor and a contemporary art gallery on the first floor are inviting and fun to look at, decorate, sit and also shop.

The elegant 19th-century building (1903) came into the possession of the famous Chrissoveloni banking family, then confiscated in communist times and turned into a business. After 1990, the building was brought back to life by the current owner Jean Chrissoveloni, in cooperation with the architectural firm Square One.

From August 26 to August 28, 2022, the international cultural event Open Air & Blues Jazz Festival takes place in Dărmănești, Bacău county in northeastern Romania.

Letea, Romania’s subtropical forest area: the Letea Forest (Romanian: Pădurea Letea) is located in Tulcea County, in the northeast of the Danube Delta, between the brambles of the Chilia River and Sulina and covers over 5,000 hectares of land. It is the northernmost subtropical forest in Europe. The ancestors of the horse population there came 300-400 years ago through the Tatars to the Danube Delta, became native there and became increasingly wild.

In the Letea forest area there are ca. 500 plants and over 3,000 animal species, including over 2,000 insects. Impressive trees such as oak trees several hundred years old provide ideal living conditions for e.g. grass hoppers, but also for feral cats and many other animals. Sea eagles, terns and a host of ducks and warbirds are also native here.

Fundata is located in Brasov county in Transylvania.

Situated at an altitude of 1,360 meters, Fundata is the highest village in Romania. It is situated in the middle of the route between Bran and Rucar, close to the Bucegi Mountains and Piatra Craiului.

The “Bridge of Lies” is one of Sibiu’s most famous landmarks. Made in 1859 in Friedrichshütte in Hesse, it was here that the first cast-iron bridge in all of Romania (and the second in all of Europe) was built.

There are many legends about the name, but since it was also the first bridge that didn’t stand on pillars, it was called “Liegebrücke”… and the word “Lügenbrücke” wasn’t so far away.

The Fairy Valley Lut Castle is located about 40 km from Sibiu (towards Brasov). In 2014 the construction was known, today the “Castle of Clay”, which looks like it was built for hobbits, is already admired and admired by many hundreds of visitors daily.

Salina Târgu Ocna is located in the resort of Târgu Ocna in the county of Bacau. It is the third largest salt mine and one of the oldest salt mines in Romania, hosting the largest respiratory disease treatment facility in the country, the Trotuș mine at a depth of 240 m. Also in this mine is one of the few places of worship in Romania, which were built in the salt pans and dedicated to St. Varvara.

The salt mine is still used today for the extraction, processing and marketing of salt in Romania and abroad. Between 90,000 and 120,000 tons of salt are extracted annually.

Salina Târgu Ocna is one of the oldest salt mines in Romania and is mentioned in documents from 1502 and listed as a salt extraction area since at least 1353.

Lake Știol is a glacial lake in the Rodnei Mountains (Romanian: Rodnei Mountains National Park, part of a mountain group of the Eastern Carpathians) at an altitude of 1,800 meters, at the foot of the Gârgălău peak in Maramureș county.

The lake can be reached by chairlift from the Borșa tourist center, the trip takes 17 minutes. Lake Știol is a glacial lake, which was created by global warming and the subsequent melting of the last glaciers in Romania. The water was captured in deep mountain valleys, and the lake is living proof of the glaciers that existed in Romania thousands of years ago.

The Bucegi Mountains (German: Butschetsch Gebirge) are located south of the city of Brasov (Kronstadt) on the eastern edge of the Southern Carpathians in Romania. It stretches in a horseshoe shape southeast of Bran (Törzburg). The highest peak of this mountain range is the 2,507-meter-high Omu peak.

BEARS are wild forest animals and not “objects of experience”, please respect this when driving on this road!

There are still about 6,000 wild brown bears in Romania and more and more bears are being attracted to this road, as the bears unfortunately get food from some travelers and therefore return to the road again and again with their own offspring.

We understand that this is a special experience… but bears can also be dangerous and, more importantly, by feeding them, you are destroying the animals natural basis of life… for a moment of attraction.

Therefore, please let bears be… bears and show responsibility… don’t feed bears and please don’t stop if you see one or more bears on the side of the road. By doing so, you are tricking the bear into thinking it is getting food. Leaving your vehicle in such a situation to get a closer look at a bear should not happen anyway. Thanks!

There are over 160 ecclesiastical castles in the Sevenburgen region, one of them is Weidenbach/Ghimbav.

On the settlement, which was founded by the Teutonic Order in the 13th century, a Gothic basilica was built in the 15th century by converting an earlier Romanesque building. During the fortification with a bering and five military towers, or cranes and a later water ditch were installed, and the church tower was equipped with gun foci. After the destruction in 1658 the church was rebuilt to its old form. However, the viol in the nave was not created until 1775. From the Gothic building phase, next to the basic site of the church…

Letea Forest is located in Tulcea county, in the northeast of the Danube Delta, between the branches of the Chilia and Sulina rivers and covers an area of over 5,000 hectares. It is the northernmost subtropical forest in Europe and the oldest nature reserve in Romania. Parts of the forest have been protected since 1930.

Historical documents show that the ancestors of today’s horse population came to the north of the Danube Delta 300 to 400 years ago with the Tatars, settled there and became increasingly wild.

In the Letea Forest area there are 500 species of plants and over 3,000 species of animals, over 2,000 of which are insects. The towering trees, such as hundred-year-old oaks, provide ideal living conditions, for example for the hoopoe, but also for feral cats and many other animals. White-tailed eagles, swallows and tons of ducks and ratites are also at home here.

Suceava Fortress is located in the city of Suceava in the county of the same name.

The fortress was built by Petru I Musat (1375-1391) at the end of the 14th century and fortified by Stephen the Great in the 15th century.

Alma Vii (in German Almen) is a village in Sibiu county in Transylvania and worth a visit!

The village is part of the commune of Moșna and is also known by the old Romanian names Alma Săsească and Alma Entre Vii, and in Hungarian Almád, Szászalmás, Német-Almás and Almás.

Lake Bâlea is a glacial lake located at an altitude of 2,034 meters in the Făgăraș Mountains in central Romania, Sibiu county. There are two huts open all year round, a meteorological station and a lifeguard station. The lake can be reached by car on the Transfăgărășan road in summer and by cable car from the “Bâlea Cascadă” hut the rest of the year.

Lake Bâlea is a glacial lake in the Romanian Carpathians. It is located in the Făgăraș Mountains on the Transfăgărașan Road between the Negoiu and Moldoveanu Mountains, the two highest mountains in the Romanian Carpathians. The lake is about 80 km from Sibiu, 70 km from the city of Făgăraș and 85 km from Curtea de Argeș.

The Apuseni Mountains (Romanian: Munții Apuseni, Hungarian: Erdélyi-középhegység) is a mountain range in Transylvania, belonging to the Western Carpathian Mountains of Romania.

The highest peak is Vârful de Bihor at 1,849 meters (1,849 ft), and the Apuseni Mountains are also home to about 400 caves.

Deva Castle (or Diemrich Castle) is located in the city of Deva (Diemrich) in Hunedoara county.

The place Viscri (German: Deutsch-Weisskirch, Hungarian: Szászfehéregyháza) is located in the Brașov (Kronstadt) district of Transylvania. It is situated northwest of the town/castle Rupea (German: Reps) and southeast of the town of Sighisoara (German: Schäßburg). Between the 18th and 20th centuries, the village had around 700 inhabitants, mainly Transylvanian Saxons plus a Romanian part of the village. Viscri is characterized by both the fortified church and the village structure, which is characterized by Saxon farms.

The town was founded by Transylvanian Saxons at the end of the 12th century and was first mentioned in 1185. The fortified church stands at the north-western end of the village.

In the 12th century, before the German settlers, the Seclavs (a Hungarian-speaking population of eastern Transylvania) built a small Romanesque-style hall church here. Expansion took place in the 13th century. After the first Turkish invasions, the church was fortified in the 14th century and a defense ring with defense towers was built.

Piatra Neamț (German: Kreuzburg an der Bistritz) is the capital of Neamț County and is located in northeastern Romania. Literally translated, Piatra Neamț means “Stein Deutsch” or ‘Deutschstein’, whereby the word Neamț is an obsolete Romanian word for “German”.

From the train station, a cable car (Telegondola) drives almost 2 km (2,000 meters) to the mountain station on Mount Cozla, at an altitude of 632 meters (632 meters). The trip takes just under 8 minutes and you can already enjoy the wonderful view of the city and the surrounding area.

Piatra Neamt was founded at the end of the 14th century as Piatra lui Crăciun and became a famous center of arts and crafts after the establishment of a royal court by Stefan the Great, prince of Moldavia (1433-1504). The city has around 80 to 100 thousand inhabitants and is always worth a visit due to the historic Old Town area.

At a distance of about 30 km from Cluj Napoca is Salina Turda, a museum of the history of salt mining in Romania.

This mine dates back to the 17th century. The exploitation of salt in Turda has been a crucial element in the successful development of the city from pre-Roman times to the present day.

The eponymous Jiului Valley (which is a tributary of the Danube) lies in southwestern Transylvania between the Retezat and Parâng Mountains in Hunedoara County.

Known for coal production in the past, the valley has long been called the largest coalfield in Romania. Today it offers a wide variety of possibilities for relaxation and hiking in the untouched and beautiful nature.

Cârța Monastery is a former Cistercian (Benedictine) monastery in the Făgăraș Region, Romania. It is located on the left bank of the Olt River, between the cities of Sibiu and Făgăraș, near the villages of Cârța (German: Kerz) and Cățișoara (German: Kleinkerz) and today a Protestant Lutheran church.

The exact date of the foundation of the monastery of Córía (Latin: monastery bea tae Mariae virginis in Candelis de Kerch) is unknown. A Constance document of April 17, 1418, issued by Sigismund, King of Hungary, vaguely states that the monastery was founded, built and granted rights and privileges by its predecessors. Cistercian documents from the 13th to the 15th centuries collected and analyzed by Leopold Janauschek list the founding year of the monastery as 1202-1203.

Petrele Waterfall is also called by locals Maria Magdalena Waterfall. It is located in the Pietrele valley in the Retezat Mountains (Hunedoara county in western Romania) at an altitude of about 1,450 meters.

Dragomirna Monastery is located about 15 kilometers north of the city of Suceava (Suceava County), near the village of Dragomirna. It was founded by Bishop Anastasie Crimca, who had the present buildings erected after a first small complex between 1602 and 1609.

The monastery is surrounded by walls 10 meters high and 2 meters wide, which were built to protect against conquerors and were completed in 1627. The monastery church, 42 meters high, 35 meters long and 9.50 meters wide, has Romanesque, Gothic and oriental stylistic elements. Its interior reveals miniature-style murals, thanks to the influence of the donor, Crimca, who was also a miniaturist. The associated museum exhibits cult objects, valuables, valuable manuscripts, icons and valuable miniatures from the monastery collection.

Humorului Monastery is a Romanian Orthodox monastery of nuns and is located about 5 km north of the town of Gura Humorului (Suceava County) in northeastern Romania.

The monastery church of the “Assumption of the Mother of God” was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1993 along with other churches in Moldova.

Lake Bucura is a glacial lake in the Retezat Mountains in Romania. It lies south of the main ridge at the foot of Vf. Peleaga, at an altitude of 2,040 meters. It is the largest glacial lake in Romania with an area of over 100,000 square meters.

The Retezat Mountains are located in the westernmost part of the Southern Carpathians, in Hunedoara county.

Pelisor Castle is located about 300 meters from its “big brother”, Peles Castle in Prahova County.

The castle was built in the cabana style by King Carol I between 1899 and 1902 for the future King Ferdinand I and Queen Maria of Romania by architect Karel Liman.

In Ilfov County, just a few kilometers northwest of Bucharest (Romania’s capital), Mogoșoaia Castle is located on the shores of Lake Mogoșoaia in Mogoșoaia. The castle contains a main courtyard and many buildings such as the watchtower and the church ′′Sf. Gheorghe′′ near the courtyard.

Wallachian Prince Constantin Brâncoveanu built the castle between 1698 and 1702 on the widow Mogoș (later named Mogoșoaia) in the Brâncoveanu style named after him.

In 1714, when Constantin Brâncoveanu was executed in Constantinople with his entire family, the Ottomans confiscated all the family possessions and turned the palace into a Han (a kind of inn). In the following decades, the castle was conquered, destroyed and rebuilt several times, until it was owned by George III in 1912 Valentin Bibesco married the French writer Marthe Bibesco, who was born into Romanian nobility. He gave the property to his wife, Marthe Bibesco then rebuilt the castle intensively.

The castle can be visited without entrance fee, it has a wonderful large park where you can/allow, for example, to have a picnic or just laze the day away. Inside the castle you pay a fee of approx. 10 lei (2,10 euro) for parking, restaurants, museums and much more… also an extended walk with the rest on a bench overlooking the lake… many things are possible and beautiful.

Warning… you should not take the camera with you or put it in your pocket!!! Cell phone pictures are no problem, but as a ‘camera owner’ you are already vehemently advised at the entrance that for professional photography you have to pay a fee of 400 Lei (approx. EUR 80).

The Black Church is a Gothic church in Brasov, Romania

It was originally consecrated as the Catholic Church of the Virgin Mary. The Black Church took its current name after a fire in the city in 1689. Today it is the main church of the German-speaking Honterus congregation of the Evangelical A.B. Church in Romania.

The Sucevița Monastery (built between 1582 and 1584) is located in Sucevița in Suceava County in northern Romania.

The Romanian Orthodox Church, located within the monastery walls, which is dedicated to the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, is one of the eight Moldovan monasteries that have been included on the UNESCO World Heritage List since August 2010.

The Dobrogea Caves are a nature sanctuary (especially a bird sanctuary here) in Dobrogea, Constanta County.

Dobrudscha (Dobrogea) is a historical landscape in south-eastern Europe between the sublime Danube and the Black Sea, forming the border area between south-eastern Romania and north-eastern Bulgaria.

Historical documents show that the ancestors of today’s horse population in the Danube delta came there 300 to 400 years ago through the Tatars, made it their home and became increasingly wild.

In the northeastern delta (Tulcea county), between the arms of the Chilia and Sulina rivers, is the Letea Forest (in Romanian: Letea Forest), which covers an area of more than 5,000 hectares (50,000,000 m2). It is the northernmost subtropical forest in Europe, the oldest nature reserve in Romania and home to these horses.

Central Park is a large public city park in the center of Cluj-Napoca. It was founded in the 19th century and is located on the south bank of the river Someșul Micul. The park now hosts the University of Art and Design and the Faculty of Chemistry of Babeș Bolyai University.

Prod, formerly Prud (in German Pruden), is a village in Hoghilag commune in Sibiu county, Transylvania. It was first mentioned in writing in the late 15th century.

The church, a Gothic building without tower or fortified choir, was built in the 19th century. In 1902 the old church was demolished and in 1904 the present church was built on the same site.

Săpânța Monastery, also known as Peri Monastery, is located in the north of Romania, in Maramureș County.

In 1391 the nephews of Dragoș Vodă donated the land and the estates on which the monastery, a stone church, was built. This stone church served as the seat of the Romanian Episcopate of Maramureș for more than 300 years and was later built by the master builder Ioan Macarie as a place of prayer for the Greek-Catholic community in the area.

The tower of the monastery church is 78 meters high, making it the third tallest church tower in Romania, after the Orthodox Cathedral in Timișoara and St. Michael’s Church in Cluj-Napoca.

Holbav (German Holbach, Hungarian Holbák) is a municipality in the region of Transylvania.

The commune is located south of the mountain Zeidner Berg (Zeidner Berg in German) near the stream of the same name. Holbav is about twelve kilometers southwest of the town of Codlea (in German Zeiden) and 20 kilometers from the county capital of Brasov (Kronstadt).

Raven’s Fortress or Raven’s House is the former home of the famous architect Kós Károly Kós Károly. After extensive studies in this field, he completed his architectural studies in 1907 and built the house in 1914.

The construction and architectural style are inspired by medieval Transylvanian architecture.

The Corbului Fortress can be reached by the Cluj-Huedin road. After the village of Paniceni and before the village of Izvoru Crisului turn right towards Nadasu (about 4 km). Then the road to the village Stana (r. Salaj). Halfway between the two villages, on the hills, you will find the Corbului Fortress.

Current information as of June 4, 2022: The Transalpina or “King’s Road”, as the road is still called, has completely reopened.

It links the towns of Novaci in Gorj county and Sebeș in Alba county. Over a length of 138 kilometers, this road crosses the Parang Mountains and has its highest point in the Urdele Pass.

The Iasi Theater Center burned down on the night of February 17/18, 1888 and was gradually rebuilt in the following years.

A Venetian crystal chandelier with more than 100 light bulbs was chosen to decorate the hall as early as October 1896, during the first tests of electric lighting. The inauguration took place on December 1, 1896.

The city of Oradea (German: Großwardein) is the capital of Bihor county in northwestern Romania. The city was first mentioned in 1080 as a Roman-Catholic diocese (document from 1113) and belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary. After World War I, Oradea went to Greater Romania and later back to Hungary. It was taken again in October 1944 and since then it belongs to the territory of Romania.

Just a few kilometers away is Băile Felix (German: Bad Felix), an internationally known health resort with thermal springs. Famous guests have included Marlene Dietrich, Charlie Chaplin and painter Salvador Dali. Today Bad Felix is the largest health resort in Romania with 200 springs.

Dinozauri în mărime naturală, animați și aduși la viață. O peșteră în timp de piatră, un mic vulcan al său și multă istorie pe vremea dinozaurilor așteaptă vizitatorii în Dinoparcu (Dino Parc Râșnov) din județul Brașov.

Pe lângă nenumărați dinozauri, se oferă multe lucruri, doar pentru cei mici și pentru cei „mici”. Pictează-ți propriul dinozaur, stai într-un tren cu dinozauri sau folosește locul de joacă spațios. Este o excursie minunată la dinopark cu toată familia.

Victoriei Square, formerly the Opera Square, is one of the central squares of Timișoara (in German: Temeswar, Temeschwar and also Temeschburg). It is the place where Timișoara was declared the first free city in Romania on December 20, 1989 during the Romanian Revolution (the overthrow of Romanian dictator Nicolae Ceaușescu).

On opposite corners of the square are the Opera to the north and the Metropolitan Cathedral (Cathedral of the Three Hierarchs) to the south. From the Opera to the Cathedral, the promenade on the right is called “Corso” and the one on the left “Surogat”. The square is surrounded by cultural institutions such as the Romanian Opera, the National Theater, the Hungarian State Theater, the German State Theater, the Mitropolitan Cathedral, the Timiș Cinematographs, the Banat Museum, art galleries and many, many more….

Not only the direct center, the Old Town (Lipscani, Old Town) of Bucharest, offers a plethora of historic buildings. You can also find them all around … and here in sector 1, partly beautifully restored, partly left to your fate. They bear witness to a bygone era and it’s a pity that much is lost here year after year.

Located in northwest Romania and with its own airport, Cluj-Napoca is one of Romania’s largest cities. The city, called Klausenburg in German, is located in Transylvania and has around 450,000 inhabitants (current research as far as possible).

Pictures from Constanta / Mamaia. The water is still a bit cold but it feels good. By boat to a small island with cormorants and gondola over the town along the “Falezei” (actually more along the waterfront).

Summer is coming or by German standards it’s already here (currently already reaching over 30 degrees with lots of blue sky)

Rucăr-Bran Pass, also known as Bran Pass, is a mountain pass in Romania that connects the districts of Brasov and Arges. It offers some of Romania’s most spectacular natural sights overlooking the Bucegi Mountains in the Southern Carpathians. The communities of Fundata and Moieciu are in the path of the pass.

Ighișu Nou, formerly also Ișdorf Săsesc, Ibișdorf, Ighișdorful Săsesc (in Saxon dialect Eibesterf, in German Saxony-Eibesdorf, Eibesdorf , Abesdorf in Hungarian Szászivánfalva, Ivánfalvă, Izséptelke) with the name, belongs to the municipality of Sibiul Nou in the region of Sevenburg.

Ighișu Nou was mentioned for the first time in a document from 1305 of the Alba Iulia chapter.

Lake Tarnița is a reservoir between the towns of Râșca, Mărișel and Gilău west of Cluj-Napoca. It has an area of about 215 ha, a length of almost 9 km and a depth of up to 70 meters.

The Parâng mountain range is located in the central part of the Southern Carpathians (also the Transylvanian Alps, called the Southern Carpathians in Romanian) in the counties of Hunedoara and Gorj, among others.

It is named after the group’s highest mountain, Mount Parâng (Parângul Mare Peak).

On the road from Sibiu (Hermannstadt) to Brașov (Kronstadt) lies the town of Făgăraș (in German Fogarasch or Fugreschmarkt).

At the end of the 12th century, today’s castle was just a wooden fortress, which was enlarged into a stone fortress in the 14th century. The castle includes a museum, which can be visited and toured just like the castle.

Plopi (in German Pappeln) is a village in the commune of Valea Ierii in Transylvania, Cluj county. The village takes its name from the poplar forests that surround it.

It is idyllically hidden in the middle of the Apuseni Mountains. In 2011 it had just 104 inhabitants.

The mountain village is characterized by small, traditionally run farms and holiday homes. A beautiful monastery called the Monastery “Ascension of the Lord” is located on the mountain.

The mountain/landscape around Plopi invites you to hike, discover nature and also some wildlife species are native here. A lynx was seen only a short time ago, there are wolves, foxes, vipers, bears, a large number of species of birds of prey and many more.

On the roads (partly still very rocky and passable only with an off-road vehicle) a horse-drawn carriage is often used, you see herds of sheep and goats or suddenly find yourself in a “cow moan”.

The landscape is characterized by the fact that here people have built typical Romanian huts. The wooden construction blends beautifully with nature to this day.

Cluj-Napoca (Klausenburg) is about 20 km from Plopi.

Many small guesthouses offer cheap accommodation and there is a romantic hotel in the municipality of Valea Ierii.

Seen, photographed and googled immediately.

The swallowtail (Macroglossum stellatarum) suggests at first glance by the extremely fast wing beats (up to 80 beats per second) that you have a hummingbird in mind, but it’s actually a butterfly (hawk moth family).

This moth is found from Spain to Japan along the entire east-west length of the Palearctic*… ours are from Galati (a city in south-eastern Romania) so they probably speak fluent Romanian.

*The Palearctic region, also known as the Palearctica, refers to an Old World zoogeographic region of biogeography that traditionally includes Europe, North Africa, and Asia (excluding the front and back India and the southern part of the Arabian Peninsula) and the islands off their coasts. areas (source: Wikipedia).

June 1 was Children’s Day and at the same time the pedestrian area of Braila was once again adorned with umbrellas in the colors of the Romanian flag.

Brăila is located in the south-east of Romania, on the Danube bank, close to the city of Galați and the Danube/Black Sea Delta.

Lunca Ponorului or Fundătura Ponorului, also known as “Palma lui Dieu”, is the valley of the Ponor River in the Șureanu Mountains. The valley is located in the Grădiștea Muncelului Natural Park in Hunedoara County.

The Simeria Dendrological Park (located in the town of Simeria, Hunedoara County) covers an area of about 70 hectares (700,000 m2). It is divided into 50 parcels and is situated along the Mures river. It includes meadows, paths, alleys, as well as lakes and springs that are embedded in a beautiful, relaxing landscape.

At the beginning of the 18th century, the park was created on the left bank of the Mures River, which today is considered by experts to be the “National Monument of Park Art” and at the same time the oldest and most valuable collection of autochthonous art. and exotic trees in Romania.

The Apuseni Mountains are a mountain range in western Romania. It peaks at almost 1,850 meters (highest peak: Cucurb ata Mare at 1,849 meters) and forms the northern section of the Romanian Western Carpathians. The mountain range has an almost circular floor plan 130 to 150 km in diameter, is bounded by the rivers Mureș, Someș and Barc au and lies in the counties of Arad, Bihor, Cluj, Alba and Hunedoara.
