Nopcsa Castle (in Romanian: Castelul Nopcsa) is located in the village of Săcel (Sântămăria-Orlea commune), in the historic region of Țara Hațegului (known in German as the Hatzeg Land). It was built in 1830 and reopened as a museum and cultural centre in September 2025, following extensive renovation.

Siria Fortress & Municipality | Arad County 😍😍🇷🇴

Siria (Vilagos in Hungarian, Hellburg in German) is a municipality in Arad County.
As early as 1169, there was a settlement named “Villa Siri” in the area of today’s municipality. Vilagosvar was first mentioned in a document in 1326, referring to Vilagos Castle, now the Siria castle ruins.
Part of Siria’s history is the history of the 13th-century castle ruins. In 1444, the castle briefly came into the possession of Johann Hunyadi, before passing to Matthias Corvinus in the second half of the 15th century. For strategic reasons, the Habsburg army destroyed the fortress in 1784.
Today, the castle ruins are a popular destination for day trips 🥰

The Slow Food Festival is taking place at Piata (Square) Artizanilor in the town of Berca. Once you cross the bridge and see the Berca Monastery—or when you reach the town—turn left immediately after the bridge and continue for about 200 meters.

The city of Arad was first mentioned in 1078 and boasts a rich cultural and historical heritage featuring architectural styles from the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries.
In addition to a wide variety of cultural events throughout the year, visitors will find a large number of artistic and historical landmarks, as well as buildings in the Baroque, Renaissance, Eclectic, Classical, Neo-Gothic, and Art Nouveau styles in and around Arad.

Highlights from Baile Herculane 😍😍🇷🇴

The town of Baile Herculane (Herkulesbad in German, Herkulesfürdő in Hungarian) is a spa town in Caraș-Severin County in the historic region of Banat. Sixteen thermal springs with varying mineral compositions are utilized along a four-kilometer stretch.
Notable monuments and buildings include the bronze statue of Hercules (1847), the spa museum with archaeological finds from the Roman era, the Roman baths (Hotel Roman on the ground floor), the casino (1913), and the Austrian baths (built between 1883 and 1886 according to plans by architect Carl Wilhelm von Doderer).

The old town and the fortification walls were built by Saxon settlers—the Transylvanian Saxons—in the 12th and 13th centuries and have largely been preserved in their original form to this day.

Berca Mud Volcanoes | Buzau County

The Mud Volcanoes (Romanian: Vulcanii Noroioși) are located in the commune of Berca in Buzau County. As early as 1924, the area with a size of 30 km² was declared a nature reserve.
The main attraction of the protected area are small mud volcanoes, which range from a few centimeters to several meters high. This is cold volcanism. The volcanoes are formed by gases rising from a depth of about 3,000 meters through clay and water-bearing layers. On the earth’s surface, the mud dries and forms structures resembling a volcano.

👨🍳 Alex Burcă brings his experience from the kitchens of Greece and Iceland, as well as from Adi Hădean’s team and the Kaiamo, Fork, and Musafir restaurants in Bucharest. He loves transforming simple ingredients into dishes with a surprising twist, drawing inspiration from markets and from exchanging ideas with producers.
👩🍳 Juranda Kirschner, co-owner of Conac Grigorescu and presenter of the programme “Savoare la Conac”. Through her cuisine, she showcases the flavours of Buzău and the products of local artisans.
At this event, the two chefs will cook with ingredients from the Buzău Slow Food community and transform products from the market stalls into creatively plated dishes.

Next weekend On Saturday and Sunday, October 3 and 4, 2026, the autumn edition of the Slow Food Festival in Berca (Buzău County) will take place again.

The Slow Food Festival takes place at Piața Artizanilor in Berca. If you come across the bridge and see Berca Monastery or reach the town, turn left immediately after the bridge and continue for approximately 200 metres.

Wooden bridges in Transylvania | Romantic and for adventurers

To cross rivers, there are many regions in Transylvania that are still hanging bridges, suitable only for pedestrians.
They are mostly made of wood and remind a bit of Indiana Jones movies in terms of construction and condition / accessibility
