The statue of the Dacian king Decebalus (ca. 86 to 106 AD) is 55 meters high and the largest / highest rock sculpture in Europe.

It is located on a rock formation in the Almaj Mountains on the banks of the Danube, close to the municipality of Dubova (Mehedinti district) in the Iron Gate Nature Park (Parcul Natural Portile de Fier).

It took 10 years, one million US dollars and 12 sculptors to create it ... and it was not commissioned by the Dacian king himself, as was perhaps thought, but by a Romanian businessman and historian between 1994 and 2004.

Near the village of Dubova (Mehedinți County), in the Iron Gates Natural Park, stands the statue of the Dacian king Decebalus (approx. 86 - 106 AD), located right on the banks of the Danube.

It is 55 meters tall, was created between 1994 and 2004, and is the largest / tallest rock sculpture in Europe.

The Bridge of God (also known as Podul Natural de la Ponoarele) is the only natural cave bridge in the country that is functional.

Located in Mehedinți County, it is the largest natural bridge in Romania and the second largest in Europe (30 m long, 13 m wide, 22 m high, and 9 m thick), and the only one in the world open to road traffic (including heavy vehicles).

A weekend in March ... a walk through Mehedinți County in the historic region of Little Wallachia.

Little Wallachia is a historical region in Romania. Together with Great Wallachia, it forms Wallachia. From the time of Hungarian rule, the term "Banat of Severin" is also known. The county seat of Mehedinți County is Drobeta-Turnu Severin, located in the southwest of Romania.

The Danube Gorge, also known as the Iron Gates, was once a dangerous passage for ships.

Over a stretch of more than 100 km, one can admire densely forested mountain ranges, wild and romantic landscapes, the Golubac Fortress from the 14th century (on the Serbian riverbank), and much more. The images show the area around the commune of Dubova, Mehedinți County, in the historic region of Banat.

Topolnița cave is a karst cave in Mehedinți county.

It is the fourth longest cave (about 11 km) in Romania: only Peștera Vântului, Peștera Humpleu Poienita and Peștera Hodobana are longer.

The temperature of the cave varies between 8.2 – 10.8 degrees Celius, which makes it a relatively warm cave.

As a result, it is a suitable habitat for some animals, including the largest colony of greater horseshoe bats (bats) in Europe. Radiocarbon dating has shown that the bat guano in this colony has been deposited continuously since 1694.
