Alma Vii (in German Almen) is a village in Sibiu County in Transylvania and definitely deserves a visit!

The village is part of the municipality of Mosna and is also known under the old Romanian names Alma Saşe and Alma Intre Vii, as well as in Hungarian such as Almad, Szaszalmas, Nemet-Almas and Almas.

The church / fortified church is located in the community of Biertan (German: Birthälm, Hungarian: Berethalom) in Sibiu County, Transylvania.

Biertan is part of the first German-Saxon settlements and was already mentioned in documents in 1398 (other sources say 1402).

Valea Viilor, originally Vorumloc (Transylvanian Saxon) / Wurmloch (German), was probably first mentioned in documents under the Hungarian name Baromlak in 1224 (possibly also in 1305) 😍😍

The “Bridge of Lies” is one of the most famous landmarks of Sibiu. Manufactured in 1859* at Friedrichshütte in Hesse, it was the first cast-iron bridge in all of Romania (and the second in all of Europe).

There are many legends about its name, but since it was also the first bridge that did not stand on pillars, it was initially called the “lying bridge” (Liegebrücke)… and from there it wasn’t far to the name “Bridge of Lies”... 😅😊

The Evangelical Parish Church "Saint Mary," with its tower featuring four corner turrets, is the most prominent and still the tallest building in Sibiu (Hermannstadt), Transylvania. Its tower is approximately 73 meters high, with a side length of 11 meters, and is visible from afar from every direction approaching the city.

For centuries, Sibiu was the religious and political center of the Transylvanian Saxons, who collectively adopted the Lutheran faith in the mid-16th century under the influence of the reformer Johannes Honterus. The original (pre-Reformation) Church of Saint Mary was built in three construction phases starting in the mid-14th century on the remains of a Romanesque basilica. In 1448, the so-called “Ferula” was added on the western side (later expanded), which today serves as a space for exhibitions or musical performances.

As early as 1910, electric lighting and heating were installed in the church. To this day, Sibiu remains the seat of the bishop of the Evangelical Church of the Augsburg Confession. The Evangelical Parish Church is also home to the Sibiu Bach Choir.

Carta Monastery (Kerz in German) is a former Cistercian (Benedictine) monastery in Transylvania, Romania.

It is located on the left bank of the Olt River, almost exactly halfway between the cities of Sibiu and Făgăraș, and is currently an Evangelical Lutheran church.

The exact date of the foundation of the Carta Monastery (Latin: monasterium beatae Mariae virginis in Candelis de Kerch) is unknown. A document from Constanta, dated 17 April 1418, issued by Sigismund, King of Hungary, vaguely states that the monastery was founded, built and granted rights and privileges by its predecessors. Cistercian documents from the 13th-15th centuries, collected and analysed by Leopold Janauschek, mention the year of the monastery's foundation as around 1202-1203.monastery around 1202-1203.

The church / fortified church is located in the commune of Biertan (in German Birthälm, in Hungarian Berethalom) in Sibiu County in Transylvania.

Biertan is part of the first German-Saxon settlements and was already mentioned in documents in 1398 (other sources: 1402).

On the way from Sibiu to Brașov lies the town of Făgăraș. At the end of the 12th century the town's fortress was only a wooden fortification, which was expanded into a stone fortress in the 14th century.

The fortress houses a museum, which—like the fortress itself—can be visited. Directly next to the fortress is the cathedral / church Sfantul Ioan Botezatorul.
