The construction of Nicolae Romanescu Park in the city of Craiova (Dolj County) was planned and initiated in 1898, following the election of Nicolae Romanescu as mayor.
The French architect commissioned for this project was Édouard Redont, who designed the park, which was built between 1898 and 1903.
The park is considered the largest natural park in Eastern Europe. It was designed in the romantic style, a synthesis of landscape architecture and painting.

It is located about 220 kilometers west of Bucharest, in the Wallachian Plain, on the left bank of the Jiu River.

At the end of August 2025, the city of Craiova (in the southwest of Romania, Dolj County) transforms for a week into a magical stage for the Puppets Occupy Street Festival. A festival with giant puppets, street performers, fantastic creatures, and over 400 free events.
Nature lovers will also find plenty to enjoy in this region: Craiova has 800 hectares of green space, including the largest natural park in Central and Eastern Europe, with 100 hectares (Nicolae Romanescu Park). With lakes, waterfalls, a fairytale castle, a suspension bridge, a zoo, a hippodrome, and a velodrome. Urban nature at its finest!

Remains of this Roman fort have been excavated in the Craiova area.

Already tomorrow, the first major Christmas markets in Romania will open, with the cities of Craiova and Sibiu (Hermannstadt) being the first to start.
The Craiova Christmas market in 2023 offered over two million lights, a Ferris wheel, an ice skating rink, a carousel, and many traditional products. This year, the markets are expected to offer visitors an enchanting Christmas atmosphere 🎄🥰

Designed by French architect Eduard Redont, the suspension bridge is a real jewel of Nicolae Romanescu Park in Craiova ( the third largest natural park in Europe ).
The bridge connects two of the hills in the park and crosses the lake in the park, the view it has to offer is unique!

It lies about 220 kilometers west of Bucharest, in the low plains of the Romanian Lands, on the left bank of the river Jiu (Schil). The area of the city today existed from about 400-350 BC a settlement in Dakish called Pelendava. At the beginning of the 2nd century, they set up camp here in BC. The remains of this Roman castle were excavated in the area of Craiova.
