The community of Harman (German: Honigberg) is located in the historical region of Burzenland, about 12 kilometers northeast of the city of Brasov (Kronstadt).

In 1211, the Hungarian King Andrew II granted the Burzenland to the Teutonic Order, which settled there, built castles, brought German settlers into the country, and founded villages such as Honigberg. After conflicts with the king, the order was expelled from the Burzenland in 1225, but the German settlements remained.

Grigorescu Estate (Buzău County, near the town of Berca) offers a family-friendly atmosphere and is centrally located within the Bucharest–Brașov–Danube Delta triangle. It is also a perfect starting point for excursions to the Dealu Mare wine region or for hiking and sporting experiences in the UNESCO Buzău Land Geopark.

The three places are only a few kilometers apart. The fortress / town of Rasnov (in German Rosenau), the village and castle of Bran (in German Törzburg), and the city of Brasov (in German Kronstadt).

Pictures of the beautifully renovated Evangelical fortified church in Transylvania. In the village, several Saxon houses have been appropriately renovated and converted, offering beautiful accommodation options.

To cross rivers, there are many regions in Transylvania that are still hanging bridges, suitable only for pedestrians.

They are mostly made of wood and remind a bit of Indiana Jones movies in terms of construction and condition / accessibility 😁

Pictures from Viscri (thank you, Roland) from one year ago (September 23, 2025), a village in Brașov County, in Transylvania.

The village is located north-west of Rupea and south-east of Sighișoara. Between the 18th and 20th centuries, it had approximately 700 inhabitants, who were mainly Transylvanian Saxons.

We were there a few days ago, in Transylvania, Brasov County, just a few kilometers from Kronstadt (Brasov)... and we were thrilled!

An hour flies by and there is something for everyone: for the lover of history and stories, for the friend of Transylvania, the adventurer, for families with children who can explore the battlements and the way of life from long ago and so much more!

Our conclusion: The visit is 100% worth it

The city of Sfantu Gheorghe is the capital of Covasna County, located north and northeast of Brasov.

The village of Viscri (Deutsch-Weisskirch in German, Szászfehéregyháza in Hungarian) is located in Brașov County, in Transylvania.

It lies north-west of the town and fortress of Rupea (Reps in German) and south-east of the town of Sighișoara (Schäßburg in German). Between the 18th and 20th centuries, the village had approximately 700 inhabitants, mainly Transylvanian Saxons, as well as a Romanian section of the village. Viscri is characterised both by its fortified church and by its village structure, shaped by Saxon farmsteads.

Viscri also became known through King Charles III, who owns a house / estate here and regularly visits the village.

The village was founded by Transylvanian Saxons at the end of the 12th century and was first documented in 1185. The fortified church stands at the north-western end of the village.

In the 12th century, before the arrival of the German settlers, the Székelys—a Hungarian-speaking ethnic group from eastern Transylvania—built a small Romanesque hall church here. It was expanded in the 13th century. Following the first Ottoman incursions, the church was fortified in the 14th century, and a defensive wall with defensive towers was built around it.

On the way from Sibiu to Brașov lies the town of Făgăraș. At the end of the 12th century the town's fortress was only a wooden fortification, which was expanded into a stone fortress in the 14th century.

The fortress houses a museum, which—like the fortress itself—can be visited. Directly next to the fortress is the cathedral / church Sfantul Ioan Botezatorul.

The city was first mentioned in a document in the year 1300. It is located on the Mureș River (Mieresch in German, Maros in Hungarian), on the route between Brașov and Cluj-Napoca, or vice versa.

The History Museum of the city and county of Brașov (Kronstadt) was founded in 1950 and is located in the former parish hall in the center of the Council Square (square) or partly in the Weavers' Bastion in Brașov (Kronstadt).

The bastion, defended and maintained by the linen weavers' guild, was built in two stages between 1421-1436 and 1570-1573. In the first phase, the first two levels of the three battle galleries were built. The upper galleries, built between 1570 and 1573, were intended for small arms that could be used through narrow, circular bullet holes throughout the galleries. Two guard towers were built, which monitored the city both militarily and in terms of possible fires.

After the restoration, the weavers' bastion was transformed into a museum.

The city of Targu Mures (Hungarian: Marosvásárhely, German: Neumarkt am Mieresch), first documented in the year 1300, is located on the Mures River (German: Mieresch, Hungarian: Maros), on the route between Brasov and Cluj-Napoca.

Targu Mures was founded by the Székely people. The city was first mentioned in historical records in 1300 as Forum Siculorum. The history of the city, like that of all Transylvania, was shaped by the Kingdom of Hungary, the Principality of Transylvania, and from the end of the 17th century by the Habsburg Monarchy, later Hungary, and then Romania.
