Pictures from Cluj-Napoca (Klausenburg in German, Kolozsvar in Hungarian) from early August 2026. The city is (probably*) the second-largest city in Romania and the capital of Cluj County in Transylvania.
With approximately 400,000 to 450,000 inhabitants, Cluj-Napoca is the unofficial capital of the Transylvania region. It has universities, a lively nightlife, and many buildings dating from the periods of Hungarian and Saxon rule. Around the main square, Piata Unirii, are the Gothic St. Michael’s Church and an equestrian statue of King Matthias Corvinus, who lived in the 15th century. The Baroque Banffy Palace is now a museum displaying Romanian art.
We thank Mr. Frank Schleßmann for sending these pictures from early August 2026.

Bucharest, capital of Romania | Old Town / Lipscani
(03 July 2026)
X

(03 July 2026)
Pictures from early May 2026, a wonderfully warm day filled with many impressions. Construction is underway in many places, revealing much of the past (see the image of Piata Unirii); there are many historic buildings with deep history, but unfortunately also more and more places in need of renovation.
As a visitor, you should use taxis very, very carefully or not at all. Unfortunately, there are more and more drivers who are no longer trustworthy. A "special offer" without a meter for 3 km at 50 to 100 euros is becoming increasingly common. That is not good! Bolt is a good alternative (also because you see the cost BEFORE the ride), or you can walk or use public transport.
The historic buildings and especially the interiors of the churches / cathedrals are beautiful 😍 the old town is lively, very lively, and the restaurants are unfortunately adapting to rising energy prices 😅 0.5 liter beer for 34 Lei (about 7 euros) or 140 Lei (about 30 euros) for two traditional sausages, fries, a cola, and a beer. Bucharest has become (probably together with Cluj-Napoca) by far the most expensive hotspot in Romania!
In the evening and at night... the old town is increasingly turning into a party area. Clubs, table dancing, loud music, and many "offers". A trend that we (Urlaub in Rumänien) don’t really like, but... it is what it is!
Nevertheless, we would recommend everyone to visit Bucharest / the Old Town. Many impressions, lots of history, and many experiences. You shouldn’t miss Bucharest, if only for the green frogs that you can sometimes find dancing in front of Parliament (our picture) 😁🥰

Romania's haunted forest Hoia Baciu

X

(19 April 2026)
Just outside the city of Cluj-Napoca (German: Klausenburg), in northwestern Romania, lies the Hoia Baciu forest, one of the most visited forests in the world, also known as the Romanian Bermuda Triangle.
And why? Over the decades, there have been hundreds of reports of paranormal activity here, ranging from mobile network interference, sightings of light orbs and ghosts, to people and animals disappearing and returning years later.
The Hoia Baciu forest takes its name from a shepherd of the region who disappeared in the forest with his flock of sheep. Another story tells of a five-year-old girl who went into the forest and returned five years later wearing the same clothes and looking not a day older. Many stories center around a clearing where nothing grows, even though scientists have examined the soil and found that everything is in order.
Whether you are looking for the supernatural or just an interesting hike, this forest is a fascinating and unique place and definitely worth a visit.
We thank Mr. Sebastian Mallach for his daring 😅 walk in the forest and for sending this impressive picture 😊👍

The baroque Banffy Palace is now a museum displaying Romanian art.
