The Danube is the border river between Romania and Serbia, Bulgaria and Ukraine.

Near the cities of Socol and Bazias begins the Romanian part of the Danube, until Mila 0, the so-called zero mile, the Danube estuary in the city of Sulina. It is worth seeing that it is on the river road, until after a long journey behind the cities of Brăila and Galati in southeastern Romania, in the Danube delta, it ended approximately. 60 kilometers further in the Black Sea.

Măcin Mountains are a mountain range in the historical landscape of Dobrogea ... and anyone traveling on the new bridge over the Danube between Braila and Galati will see it right in front of them.

As part of Dobrogea's northern massif, it lies between the Danube and the Black Sea. The highest peak is called Varful Țutuiatul and is 467 meters high. Culmea Pricopanului (photo) is about 20 kilometers east of the city of Brăila.

Many travelers drive to Romania with their own car or rent one at the airport and ... some may feel a bit overwhelmed by parking situations in certain cities. So here are a few tips.

**First of all, don’t copy the creative parking habits of some locals**. Cars can be **towed quickly** (especially in fire zones, in front of hospitals, intersections, pedestrian crossings, etc.), and recovering them requires **cash payment** – but first, you need to find out where your car was taken, which can be a long process 🙈.

# Stress-free parking in Brăila 🥰
Brăila, located in southeastern Romania, has about 150,000 residents. **Parking is always available and completely free, even in the city center**.

# The neighboring city, Galați ... a bit more complicated 😅
Galați, with around 300,000 residents, has **many paid parking zones** (not only downtown). Parking is charged **Monday-Saturday, 08:00-20:00**, and can be paid at parking meters or via SMS (Romanian phone number required). **IMPORTANT**: If you don’t pay, you may quickly find a **wheel clamp** 😅. The unlocking fee is **200-300 Lei (40-60 Euros)** depending on the time of day.

# Brașov – parking requires patience
Finding a parking spot **near the center of Brașov is difficult at any time**. Many streets are one-way, and it takes time to locate an available space. **Parking is charged (Monday-Saturday, 08:00-20:00)** and can be paid at meters, via SMS (per hour, multiple SMS needed – Romanian number required), or via an app (24h tickets available). Paid parking applies citywide, so always check the signs.

# Timișoara, European Capital of Culture 2023 ... going high-tech 😁
Paid parking in the city center is monitored using a **special camera-equipped vehicle** that scans parked cars and checks payment records in real-time. We’re not sure how it works exactly, but … we suspect fines are issued automatically.

# Bucharest … no words 🙈
Parking in Bucharest means **either at the hotel or 20 km outside the city** 😁. The **traffic is intense**, and the **driving style is reminiscent of Italian movies**. Most areas, including downtown, require **paid parking** (via meter, SMS – Romanian number needed, or app). Finding a spot in the **Old Town is extremely difficult**, and private parking can cost up to **300 Lei (60 Euros) for 24h**. **Our advice**: book a hotel with free parking and use taxis, Uber, or public transport instead. It's worth it!

# Small towns & rural areas
Parking here is usually **free and easy** 😊, but check signs near tourist attractions.

# Ignoring a parking fine? 😅
Not a good idea! Most cities **clamp the front wheel** (yellow or orange). The release fee depends on the time of day. **Better pay for parking in advance** – it’s cheaper!

There are many sights to see along the river’s course, until, after a long journey, it fans out into the Danube Delta behind the cities of Braila and Galati in southeastern Romania, and about 60 kilometers further, it flows into the Black Sea.

In early September, cross the new bridge at Braila over the Danube, continue for about 15 km to Macin and continue straight on for about 500 metres after reaching the end of the village.

Then turn left off the main road towards the Monastery of the Spring of Healing (also Macin Monastery) and as soon as you turn left again towards the monastery, park on the right and walk to the right ... into the Macin mountains.

Butterflies, lizards, a tortoise and lots and lots of nature all the way to the top of Vraju, (probably) the highest point in the mountain range, 335 metres above sea level. A great view of the monastery and the surrounding area towards the Danube Delta, Braila and Galati, including the new bridge over the Danube, rewards the afternoon climb, when it's still around 28 degrees.

Hike time up/down: 4 hours, with the last 30-45 minutes being rockier and therefore good footwear is a must. The hiking trails are well signposted and easy to follow/find.

The Cocosu Monastery is located between Galati / Braila and Tulcea (a city in the Danube Delta), at the foot of the “Dealul Cocosului” hills.

It was founded in the second half of the 17th century, with the church being demolished and rebuilt in 1910. The monastery consists of an abbot’s house, several monks’ dwellings, a bell tower, a chapel, and a church dedicated to the Dormition of the Mother of God.

Galati is the capital of the district of the same name in Moldova, in southeastern Romania.

It was visited by royal families and was one of the richest cities in Romania. Today it is a well-known port city, near Brăila and it is definitely worth a visit.

In addition to the botanical garden, the zoo, many parks and museums, churches and much more, approx. The 2 1/2 km long promenade on the waterfront, a wonderful view over and to the Danube, which in some places reaches a width of up to 900 meters.

Relaxed parking in Brăila

Neighboring city, Galati ...
The city of Galati is also located in southeastern Romania and is the neighboring town of Brăila with approximately 300,000 inhabitants. In many parts of the city ( center, but also in peripheral areas ) parking spaces are required ( Monday to Saturday, every 8:00 - 20:00 clock ). Payment can be made via the parking machine on the site or via SMS ( Romanian phone number required ). IMPORTANT: On average, it only takes a short time to find an elegant, yellow or orange immobilizer on the front wheel. Depending on the time of day, 200 or 300 lei ( approximately 40 or 60 euros ) are then due for removal.

Kronstadt ( Brasov ), take / plan your search time
In the center or close to the center of Brașov ( Brasov ) is almost at any time of the day it is not easy to find a parking space. There are few parking spaces and due to many restrictions ( unique streets ), you may need to find a parking space. You really shouldn't rush here! Parking spaces are subject to a fee ( Monday to Saturday, 8:00 - 20:00 watch ) and can be through the parking machine on the site ( usually only one or two hours ) or. through the ( application also 24 hours / one day ). There are also paid parking spaces in Brașov throughout the city, so always pay attention to the appropriate signs.

Bucharest ... without words
Parking in Bucharest is easy, either in the hotel parking lot or 20 km outside the city. Anyone who has ever been in Bucharest, will quickly notice ... you need a lot of time, patience and also a certain serenity towards the driving style, which here is similar to some Italian cities. In many districts, center, shopping malls and more, traffic is usually quite rough ( Navi: in 800 meters you have reached your destination. Expected travel time: 48 minutes ). Parking is due and can usually be paid on site, via SMS ( Required Roman telephone number ) or by application. Depending on the district ( the old town ), it is very difficult or at extreme prices ( 300 lei ( 60 euro ) for 24 hours. on a „ private parking ” to find a parking space. Find a hotel with free parking and walk or use a taxi / Uber or bus / metro, it's worth it!
In rural areas and small towns

Here it is almost always very relaxed, park, point. But please always take a look at any clues ( usually near targets / destinations ). It can also be charged there.

And on the side: RO Vignette..., in order to use the highway, but also the country roads ( so it is mandatory for each car ) you need a winery. Vignette ( RO Vignettes ) can be purchased and paid online ( German area ) one month in advance (, so before the holiday ). Costs are also manageable and ok. Seen today (March 26) in Braila, the first stork this year that has already started to renovate the nest.

Finally you can see them again... Barza (Romanian for stork), which are now moving in to breed in many, many villages, especially in south-eastern Romania.

Almost every mast, no matter how daring the cable construction may seem, is inhabited by a nest. We will be there live in a few weeks and are already looking forward to many, many wonderful pictures of mom, dad and, above all, the babies of the stork family.

Black swan ( Cygnus atratus ) or black swan is the only swan almost completely black and also has the longest neck of all swans.

The natural range of the black swan is Australia. In Europe, only abandoned and ferrous swans with black tails appear, through which so far they have been discovered only in the populations of the Netherlands and North Rhine-Westphalia.
