The town of Târgu Mureș (German: Neumarkt am Mieresch) was first mentioned in a document in 1300 and is located on the Mureș River (German: Mieresch, Hungarian: Maros) in the Transylvanian region of Romania. It is the capital of Mureș County.

The area is characterized by mountains and forests. In addition to some lakes, streams and rivers such as Mureș, there is also groundwater. The temperate continental climate creates large seasonal fluctuations in temperature with hot and dry summers and cold winters.
