The legend of the Bigăr waterfall
Legend has it that there was once a family of peasants from Valea Almajului. Unfortunately, the two could not have children, so they went to the witch for advice or a cure. The witch told the woman that she would help her, but not now, but at night when she would appear in her dream.
During the night, when the woman was asleep, the witch appeared to her in a dream and told the woman that if she drank water from the spring between the two worlds, under the rock, she would have a child.
But, the witch warned them, in case they have a daughter, not to let her fall in love, because love will bring her death. Unfortunately, the woman gave birth to a girl, who as she grew older fell in love with a boy named Bigăr. To keep her away from the curse, the girl’s father locked her in a cave on a mountain.
As time passed, the girl suffered more and more. The witch, overcome by the girl’s pain, appeared in the cave, telling the girl that she would turn her hair into a waterfall, and all her tears would flow there. The young Bigăr threw himself into the water, and the young woman died with him. The two met again on the other world, where they could fulfill their love story.
The legend also says that those in love who want to have eternal love should drink water from the Bigăr waterfall.
