Bistritz (Romanian: Bistrița, Hungarian: Beszterce), located in Bistrița-Năsăud County in northern Transylvania, is the capital of the historic Nösnerland region.
The first picture was taken at the beginning of June 2026, and we would like to thank Mr. Florin Iliescu for it. All the other pictures were taken by Mr. Frank Schleßmann, to whom we also extend our thanks for the 2025 photos and the accompanying explanatory text (below).
The city's landmark is the Evangelical Parish Church, which has the tallest church tower in Romania (75 m). The church was severely damaged in a major fire in 2008. This year, the extensive restoration and renovation work was completed. From the tower of the parish church, which can be reached by elevator, visitors enjoy a magnificent view over the city and the surrounding mountains.

Pictures from the Pumpkin Festival near the village of Tonciu (about 20 km south of Bistrita) in Bistrita-Nasaud County.
We were surprised to see hundreds of cars in the parking lot and thousands of people and pumpkins 🙂. In addition to pumpkin oil and pumpkin seeds, there was of course fresh pumpkin soup, pumpkin pie, and many other pumpkin-based dishes. Children could play with hay bales and pumpkins, the sun was shining, and it was an all-around beautiful afternoon.
The Pumpkin Festival in Tonciu takes place every autumn for three days (Fri., Sat., Sun.). Pictures from 19.10.2025

Teleki Castle (fortress) | Posmus | Bistrița-Năsăud County
(20 October 2025)
The village of Posmus was founded by German settlers. Mihaly Teleki (1634–1690), Chancellor of Transylvania, acquired a significant estate in this area around 1680. In the mid-18th century, several dilapidated wooden buildings stood on the site of today’s manor house.
Pal Teleki and Borbala Haller had the building rebuilt in the Baroque style. They commissioned the rectangular shape of the castle: on the sides were the warehouses, the stable, and the prison; at the back, the main building, rebuilt between 1750 and 1752; and at the front, the gate bastion, built around 1760. The gate bastion, which also housed a chapel, was later used as a guest house.
