The nature reserve is located in the east of the Bihor Mountains (the mountain group of the Apuseni Mountains, which are part of the Western Carpathian Mountains) in the northwestern part of the Alba district and is home to numerous caves, including the Poarta lui Ionele cave.

From Arieseni follow DN 75 to the center of Garda de Sus. From there, turn left and after about 1 km turn right again at the first crossroad towards Poarta lui Ionele and Cheile Ordancusii. The gorges stretch for 4 kilometers in a picturesque landscape with impressive rock formations that invite you to take a walk also to the nearby Scărișoara glacier.
