Brukenthal Palace Avrig
In the southern part of Transylvania you will find a romantic place to spend your holiday or to escape from everyday life for a short time. In the middle of the baroque park of Samuel von Brukenthal’s summer residence in Freck (Avrig), modern guest rooms, vip rooms and a flat in the orangery have been furnished for you. If you arrive by car, there is a car park directly behind the Orangery.
A delicious breakfast awaits guests, which you can enjoy on the terrace in the Dutch garden, surrounded by flowers and flowering shrubs, or in the restaurant.
The highlight of the estate is the baroque castle. It is located on a 12-metre-high terrace above the Olt valley, at the highest point of Freck (Avrig). The ensemble consists of a main building with three wings, adjoined by two outbuildings. The U-shaped ground plan is oriented towards the park rather than the street, as is customary in Transylvania.

Baroque Garden | Glass Museum | Baronul Samuel von Brukenthal
In 1777, Baron Samuel von Brukenthal was appointed Governor of Transylvania, making him the only Saxon in history to be appointed to such an important office by Empress Maria Theresa of Austria. The former summer residence of Baron Samuel von Brukenthal was awakened from its slumber in 2011 and renovated with Brukenthal’s ideas and visions in mind and reopened to the public. This historic jewel of the Baroque period, where history, elegance and sophistication combine in a romantic dance with nature, is the perfect venue for your events, where dreams come true!
The Brukenthal Palace in Avrig is the dominant building of the summer residence of Baron Samuel von Brukenthal, a mythical and historic place once considered the Eden of Transylvania. It is modelled on Schonbrunn Palace in Vienna, as it was designed by the same architect from that period, although the palace is seven times smaller in miniature. To sum up, these are two world-renowned Baroque castles, artistically and architecturally united.
