Parliament Palace in Bucharest
(30 December 2021)
The “People’s House” is a myth. At 360,000 square meters, it’s not only the second largest building in the world (after the Pentagon in Washington), it’s also number 1 in the Guinness Book of World Records for its total weight.
Among other things, 1,000,000 cubic meters of marble, 3,500 tons of crystal, 700,000 tons of steel and bronze, 900,000 cubic meters of wood and 200,000 square meters of carpet were processed. The palace has about 1,000 rooms, countless halls, corridors, corridors, staircases and 40 elevators.
The building dating back to the time of dictator Nicolae Ceausescu is – whether you think this “building style” is good or not – definitely worth a visit.

Mogoșoaia Castle, near Bucharest
(27 December 2021 / Images: September 2021)
In Ilfov County, just a few kilometers northwest of Bucharest (Romania’s capital), Mogoșoaia Castle is located on the shores of Lake Mogoșoaia in Mogoșoaia. The castle contains a main courtyard and many buildings such as the watchtower and the church ′′Sf. Gheorghe′′ close to the courtyard.
The Wallachian Prince Constantin Brâncoveanu built the castle between 1698 and 1702 on the widow’s Mogoș (later named Mogoșoaia) in the Brâncoveanu style named after him.
In 1714, when Constantin Brâncoveanu was executed in Constantinople with his entire family, the Ottomans confiscated all the family possessions and turned the palace into a Han (a kind of inn). In the following decades, the castle was conquered, destroyed and rebuilt several times, until it was owned by George III in 1912 Valentin Bibesco married the French writer Marthe Bibesco, who was born into Romanian nobility. He gave the property to his wife, Marthe Bibesco then rebuilt the castle intensively.
The castle can be visited without entrance fee, it has a lovely big park where you can/are allowed to, for example, have a picnic or just laze the day away. Inside the castle you pay a fee of approx. 10 lei (2,10 euro) for parking, restaurants, museums and much more… also an extended walk with the rest on a bench overlooking the lake… many things are possible and beautiful.
Caution… you should not take the camera with you or put it in your pocket !!! Pictures with your cell phone are no problem, but as a ‘camera owner’ you are already vehemently advised at the entrance that for professional photography you have to pay a fee of 400 Lei (approx. EUR 80).

Its appearance today was the hour tower at the end of the 17th. Centuries later, as on April 30, 1676, a devastating fire, coming from the suburbs, overtook the tower. The hour tower has a total height of about 64 feet with a weather tap. The wall strength is 2.4 meters on the ground floor, the wall height is 39.5 meters (from 1804), the tower contains five floors. On the top floor, the tower is surrounded by an open wooden gallery, which also served as a fire guard and a view of the city environment.

(7. December 2021)
About 20 km from Brasov (Kronstadt), on the road to Bran, lies Râșnov (Rosenau). A small town with about 15 tds. Inhabitants, a fortress and an animal park. In the 14th century a castle was built over the site on limestone cliffs. In the years 1623 and 1640 in the castle was built a well 80 firs deep (approx. 140 meters), which, according to legend, took 17 years to build two Turkish soldiers, prisoners of war. The two prisoners were promised their freedom after completion to build the fountain.

Romania’s haunted forest, Hoia Baciu
(5 December 2021)
Just outside Cluj-Napoca (German: Klausenburg), in north-western Romania, lies the Hoia Baciu Forest, one of the most visited forests in the world, also known as the Bermuda Triangle of Romania. Why? Over the decades there have been hundreds of reports of paranormal activity, ranging from mobile phone outages, sightings of balls of light and ghosts, to people and animals disappearing and returning years later.
The Hoia Baciu Forest takes its name from a shepherd in the region who disappeared into the forest with his flock of sheep. Another story tells of a five-year-old girl who went into the forest and five years later came back wearing the same clothes and not looking a day older. Many stories are about a glade in which nothing grows, and although scientists have examined the land and determined that everything is fine.
And whether you are looking for the supernatural or just an interesting hike, this forest is a fascinating and unique place and definitely worth a visit.

Bucovina – Moldovan monasteries
(3 December 2021)
The Moldavian monasteries are located in Bucovina and were built in the 15th and 16th centuries in what was then the Princely Tower of Moldavia. The monasteries are famous for their magnificent frescoes. Many of the buildings go back to Stephen the Great, who is believed to have founded a monastery for every battle he won. Eight are part of the world cultural heritage. The special thing about Moldovan monasteries is their colorful painting, which is unique in Europe. The monks also wanted to bring the contents of the Holy Scriptures closer to the people down below, who could neither read nor write. And so they used the monastery’s interior walls, facades and protective walls to depict scenes and parables from the Bible in colorful drawings, paintings and frescoes. They are considered absolute masterpieces of Byzantine art.

The Transfăgărășan is a mountain road in Romania. After Transaplina it is the highest national road in Romania. The road connects the Argeș Valley in Wallachia Mare with the Olt Valley in Transylvania, crossing the Făgăraș Mountains – a mountain group in the Transylvanian Alps (part of the Carpathians). Construction of the road was officially started in 1970 and was inaugurated in the fall of 1974
The Transfăgărășan road is the starting point for hiking in the peaks of the Făgăraș Mountains. On the southern edge of the road, about 200 meters above the road, near the hydroelectric power station of the Vidraru Dam, are the ruins of Poenari Castle.
