Sighișoara – Wonderful pictures

Sighișoara is a town in Mureș county, Transylvania region, Romania.
The town of Sighișoara was founded in the second half of the 19th century by German immigrants from Transylvanian Saxony. In 1280 it was first mentioned in a document. In 1435, the Romanian name ′′Sișoara ′′ borrowed from the Hungarian ′′ appeared for the first time in writing.

Sambetei Valley in the Făgăraș Mountains

The Făgăraș Mountains are located in the southern Carpathian mountain range in Romania. It is crossed by the Transfagaras highway. The ridge is about 70 km long and 40 km wide. The mountains cover an area of nearly 2,000 km² and range in height from 350 to 2,544 meters (the peak of Moldoveanu, west of Brasov).

Mocăniță is the name of a narrow-gauge railroad on which steam locomotives still run. The most famous “Mocăniță” runs in the Vaser Valley in Maramureș county, north of the Transylvania region of Romania.

Devil’s Lake

The Devil’s Lake (hell or devil in German) is located in the Cheile Nerei-Beusnița Natural Park, in the Banat region, Caras-Severin county in western Romania.
In earlier times, it was an underground lake that surfaced after a partial collapse of the cave ceiling in which it was located. It is about 700 square meters in size, 20 meters in diameter and about 12 meters deep. Its name comes from a local legend that Satan threw himself into the lake after losing a bet with a shepherd.

Fortified Church of Richiș

The fortified church of Richiș is located in the municipality of Biertan, in the county of Sibiu and was built as a monastery in the second half of the 14th century (14th century: 01.01.1301 to 31.12.1400). Around 1400, this monastery was transformed into a fortified Catholic church and completed in 1451 (picture). Today the visitor encounters an Evangelical Lutheran church, a real treasure, which gradually reveals itself to the visitor. The interior of the church is rich in unique zoomorphic motifs (representations in animal, animal-like forms) and plant motifs.

Galati, city on the Danube and the Danube delta

Galati is a county municipality in the Moldavian region of southeastern Romania. It was visited by royal families and was one of the richest cities in Romania. Today, near Brăila, it is a well-known port city and definitely worth a visit. Besides the Botanical Garden, the zoo, many parks and museums, churches and much more, the 2 km long waterfront offers a wonderful view over the Danube, where in some places it is up to 900 meters wide.

Poiana Brasov, Brasov County

Bran Castle – Welcome

Bran Castle (in German: Törzburg) is located in the region of Transylvania, in the county of Brasov.
Whether Dracula (if he ever existed) or his “human” representative (Vlad III. Dracula, Vlad the Impaler, Vlad the Impaler) lived here or not … the castle and the whole region are definitely worth a visit.

County Museum of History Brasov / Weavers Bastion

The Museum of History of the City and County of Brasov was founded in 1950 and is housed in the former parish hall in the center of the Piața Sfatului (square) or partially in the bastion of the Weavers of Brasov (Kronstadt).
The bastion, defended and maintained by the linen weavers’ guild, was built in two stages between 1421-1436 and 1570-1573. In the first phase, the first two levels of the three battle galleries were built. The upper galleries, built between 1570 and 1573, were intended for small caliber weapons that could be used through narrow, circular bullet holes throughout the galleries. Two watchtowers were built for the guard, who monitored the town from a military point of view as well as in terms of possible fires.
After restoration, the Weavers’ Bastion was turned into a museum.
A short tour of Brasov

Brasov is a wonderful city with many historic buildings, places to relax and meet friends, for a coffee and/or more… just to enjoy your time here.
It’s a city with lots of greenery, around the old town center, which can be reached in a few minutes. Many sights like the Black Church, the Black and White Tower, the fortress of Brasov and many more invite you to stay in the city.
Busteni and Caraiman peak

Topul Caraiman is a 2384 m high peak in the Bucegi Mountains (Mun ti Bucegi) in the Romanian Southern Carpathians. In the eastern mountain massif of the Transylvanian Alps, the mountain is one of the highest known thanks to the monument Crucea Eroilor (German: Hero’s Cross), below whose summit is the small town of Bușeni, Prahova county.

Brasov is always worth a trip. The old town delights the diverse and although in the middle of the city, in a few minutes you are immediately in the middle of nature.

Lake Văliug in Banat

The lake bears the name of the municipality of Văliug (German Franzdorf) in the county of Caras-Severin, in the Banat region of Romania. The municipality is located in the valley of the river Bârzava at an altitude of 550 meters, at the foot of the Semenic Mountains.

Buila Vanturarița National Park

Buila Vânturarița National Park is situated in the Căpățânii Mountains (a sub-group of mountains in the Southern Carpathians) and is located in the northern part of the Vâlcea county in the area of Costești, Bărbătești and Băile Olăile Olăile.
It is one of the many natural paradises that can still be found in large numbers in Romania.

Roman Baths / Daco-Roman Baths

In Geoagiu-Băi, about 45 km northeast of Deva, in Hunedora county, there are the archaeological sites of Băile Romane (a former Roman thermal bath) and Băile Daco-Romane (a new thermal bath, which is now used for treatments).
Geoagiu-Bai is a balneotherapic (balneotherapy) resort that was first documented in 1805. The ozonized air, which is constantly refreshed by mountain breezes, is recommended, among other things, for the treatment of certain diseases of the nervous system, fatigue, overwork, anemia and neurosis.

Moscow Palace in Oradea

′ The Moscow Palace ′′ in the city of Oradea in Bihor county was founded in 1905 by architect Rimanoczy Kalman jr. Designed. It is a two-story building with many ornate plant motifs and one of the finest examples of the secession style (a variation of Art Nouveau, which developed primarily in Austria) of the period.

The ruins of Șoimoș

Șoimoș is a village in Lipova county, Arad, Romania. Striking is the ruin of the medieval castle, situated high above Miereschtal.
To visit the castle ruins you have to go east of the village, one approx. 250 meters high hill. The oldest part of the castle is Burgfried, the castle courtyard covers an area of 35 × 22 meters. In the northern part of the Renaissance tract there is a balcony, known as Isabella Jagiellonica, who lived here from 1541 onwards under the name of Isabella balcony. In the southern part of the complex there is a knight’s chamber and a chapel.
The Soimoș Castle (German also Falkenstein) was first mentioned in 1278, when Castrum Somos, in a Latin document.
Statue of Decebal, locality of Dubova

The statue of the Dacian king Decebal (ca. 86 to 106 Chr) is 55 meters high and the largest/highest rock sculpture in Europe. It stands on a rock formation of the Almaj Mountains on the banks of the Danube, near the village of Dubova (Mehedinți County) in the Iron Gate Natural Park.
10 years, a million dollars and 12 sculptors were needed to make it… and, it may not have been thought up by the Dacians themselves, but only commissioned in 1994 by a Romanian businessman and historians.

Constanța – Much more than just the sea

You should visit … the opera, the museums, the Grand Mosque, the lion house, the marina, many cafes and restaurants in beautiful squares, parks and much more…
Constanta has over 2,000 years of history, which is documented in the National Museum of History and Archaeology. In the adjacent mosaic museum you can see Roman floor mosaics from the 4th century AD. Nearby is the Charles I Mosque, covered with a huge Persian carpet and whose minaret towers over the city.
Lake Tarnița in Cluj county

Lake Tarnița is a reservoir between the municipalities of Râșca, Mărișel and Gilău west of Cluj-Napoca. It has an area of about 215 ha, a length of almost 9 km and a depth of up to 70 meters.

Buila Vânturarița in the Căpățânii Mountains

Images from this month (May 2021) of the Buila Vânturarița Mountain in the Căpățânii Mountains in Valcea county.
The limestone ridge of the mountain is about 15 km long and is located between the Bistri Ba and Folea gorges of the Olănești river in the national park of the same name (Buila Vânturarița National Park).

Medveles bear watcher találkozóhely

Approximately 35 km from the city of Brasov (Kronstadt), northeast of St. Gheorgh is the Medveles találkozóhely bear-watching site in Covasna County. And yes, the name doesn’t just sound Hungarian, but Hungarian… because in this part of Romania, although far in the east of the country, Hungarian is spoken as the main language.
About 6,000 brown bears still exist in the forests and mountains of the Romanian / Transylvanian Carpathians and those who have always wanted to meet a bear without danger ′′ eye-to-eye have the chance to do it up close. The Bear Watching Center offers professional guidance and guidance to visitors and photographers, many offers from bear watching to off-road vehicle tours.

Lake Bâlea

Known as Lacu Bâlea, is a glacier lake in the Romanian Carpathian Mountains. It is located in the Făgăraș Mountains on the Transfăgărășan road between the Negoiu and Moldoveanu mountains.
The lake is situated in the county of Sibiu and is about 80 km from the city of Sibiu (German Hermannstadt) and approx. 70 km from the city of Făgăraș (German Fogarash or Fugreschmarkt).

Regularly in spring there are ′′new umbrellas ′′ in the pedestrian area of the city of Brăila (south-eastern Romania)… which not only donate shade, they invite visitors to create many, many photos. This year Brăila decorates itself, instead, instead. of the colorful mix of colors, in the national colors of Romania blue / yellow / red.

Parliament Palace in Bucharest

At about 360,000 square meters, the “Palace of Parliament” is not only the second largest building in the world (after the Pentagon in Washington) with its total weight, it is also number 1 in the Guinness Book of World Records.
Among other things, 1,000,000 cubic meters of marble, 3,500 tons of crystal, 700,000 tons of steel and bronze, 900,000 cubic meters of wood and 200,000 square meters of carpet were processed. There are around 1,000 rooms in the palace, not counting corridors, corridors, staircases and 40 elevators.
The building, which dates back to the days of dictator Nicolae Ceausescu, is definitely worth a visit, whether you like this “architectural style” or not.

Măcinului Mountains – Pricopan Peak

Măcin Mountains is a mountain range in Tulcea district, Dobrogea, Romania. As part of the massif north of Dobruja, it also lies between the Danube and the Black Sea. The highest elevation is called Țuțuiatul Peak and is 467 meters high. Culmea Pricopanului (pictured) is located approx. 20 km east of the city of Braila.

Piatra Neamt

Piatra Neamț in eastern-northern Romania is the capital of Neamț County. The town was founded in the late 14th century and after the establishment of a princely court by Stephen the Great, Prince of Moldavia (1433-1504), it developed into a renowned center of arts and crafts. The nearby town of Târgu Neamț was the center of a colony of German-speaking settlers in the Middle Ages; the name “Neamț” is an old Romanian term for “German”.
Piatra Neamț is about an hour’s drive (60 km) from the city of Bacău.
Mărășești Mausoleum in Vrancea County

The Mărășești Mausoleum is a historical monument dedicated to those who died in the First World War.
It is located in Vrancea county, as this is where the main battles on the Eastern Front took place. The mausoleum now houses 5,000 soldiers and officers in 154 individual and 9 common crypts in 18 rows.
Braila City Park – Monument Park

The park in Braila has been in existence since 1833 and is known for a monument built by and named after the French architect Villaye. The memorial depicted a double-edged sword on a pedestal with two lions next to it. In 1916 the monument was destroyed by the Turkish occupiers.
With an area of about 90 hectares, the Braila park is now one of the largest parks in Romanian cities.
