The Roman-Catholic Church of Saints Peter and Paul in Brasov was built in the second half of the 18th century, according to the plans of architect Karl Joseph Lamasch.
The church is the only Baroque building in the city. The altar is made of wood and gilded, the stained-glass windows were made in Budapest, and the organ comes from Timișoara. The church houses statues of St. Peter, St. Paul, St. Anne and St. Anthony of Padua.
Priest Ignatius Wagensei asked Empress Maria Theresa for support for the construction of this place of worship, and in the summer of 1776 construction work began. In 1787 the church was consecrated by the Bishop of Transylvania, Ignatius Batthyany.

The “Parliament Palace” is not only the second largest building in the world (after the Pentagon in Washington), with an area of about 360,000 square meters, but also number 1 in the Guinness Book of World Records for its total weight.
Among other things, 1,000,000 cubic meters of marble, 3,500 tons of crystal, 700,000 tons of steel and bronze, 900,000 cubic meters of wood and 200,000 square meters of carpeting were used. The palace has about 1,000 rooms, countless corridors, corridors, staircases and 40 elevators.
The building, which dates back to the time of dictator Nicolae Ceausescu, is – whether you like this “architectural style” or not – definitely worth a visit.

The clock tower is the landmark of Sighisoara (German name: Schäßburg) and is … a wonderful observation platform of Sighisoara. Access is possible daily from 9:00 (weekends from 10:00) until 18:00. Including the museum, admission costs 16 lei (about €3.40) for adults and just under €1 for a child.
The clock tower was built in the second half of the 14th century as a defensive structure for the castle’s main gate and as the seat of the council (until the end of 1656). The Stundturm received its present appearance at the end of the 17th century, when, on April 30, 1676, a devastating fire in the town from the lower town spread to the tower. The Stundturm, including the girueta, has a total height of about 64 meters. The thickness of the walls is 2.4 meters on the ground floor, the height of the masonry is 39.5 meters (from 1804), and the tower contains five stories. On the top floor, the tower is surrounded by an open wooden gallery, which was also used for fire surveillance and as a lookout point for the city’s surroundings.

The “Bridge of Lies” is one of Sibiu’s most famous landmarks. Built in 1859* in Friedrichshütte in Hesse, this was the first cast-iron bridge in all of Romania (and the second in all of Europe).
There are several legends about its name, but as it was also the first bridge not resting on piers, it was called “Liegebrücke”… and the word “Lügenbrücke” wasn’t that far off.
* Info: In 1859, Sibiu, like Transylvania, belonged to what was then the Kingdom of Hungary (then Austria-Hungary from 1867).

The crosses, which have been painted by local craftsmen, are lively and predominantly blue in color.
The idea for the cemetery was born in 1935 and belonged to the woodcarver Stan Ioan Patras. He wanted to create a cemetery, unique in Romania, which would show the life and personality of the deceased in a cheerful representation. Each cross has an image carved on the top, representing a special moment in the life of the deceased. Underneath, short, humorous poems or rhyming texts describe the life of the person buried there.

The Roman-Catholic Church of St. Peter and Paul in Brasov was built in the second half of the 18th century, according to the plans of architect Karl Joseph Lamasch.
The church is the only Baroque building in the city. The altar is made of wood and gilded, the stained-glass windows were made in Budapest, and the organ comes from Timișoara. The church houses statues of St. Peter, St. Paul, St. Anne and St. Anthony of Padua.
The priest Ignatius Wagensei asked Empress Maria Theresa to support the construction of this place of worship, and in the summer of 1776 construction work began. In 1787 the church was consecrated by the Bishop of Transylvania, Ignatius Batthyany.

Valea Viilor (German: Wurmloch) is a municipality in the county of Sibiu in the historical region of Transylvania.
Valea Viilor, originally Vorumloc, was probably first mentioned in documents under the Hungarian name Baromlak in 1224 (possibly also in 1305). Originally owned by the nobility, the village of Transylvanian and Saxon obedience was later able to join the Mediasch See and thus became free. Until 1964, the village was known in Romania as Vorumloc, a name derived from the German language, and was later renamed “Valea Viilor” (German meaning: Valley of the Vineyards).
In 1850, the proportion of Germans was over 65%, and in 1977 over 50%. Today, only about 1-2% of the inhabitants are German.

The statue of the Dacian king Decebalus (c. 86-106 AD) is 55 meters high and is the largest / tallest stone sculpture in Europe.
It is located on a rock formation in the Almajului Mountains, on the banks of the Danube, near the commune of Dubova (Mehedinți County), in the Iron Gates Natural Park (Parcul Natural Porțile de Fier).
Ten years, one million American dollars and twelve (12) sculptors were needed to create it… and, it was commissioned – not by the Dacian king himself, as one might have thought – but only between 1994 and 2004 by a Romanian businessman and historian.

Peles Castle is located about 1.5 kilometers northwest of the town of Sinaia, Prahova County.
It was built between 1873 and 1883 by order of King Carol I of Romania and seized by the communist regime in 1947. After the Romanian Revolution in 1989, Peles was returned to the former King Mihai, who was living in exile in Switzerland.
The oriel windows and semicircular walls are reminiscent of Hohenzollern Castle, the king’s residence. Seven terraces surround the castle. Some of the 160 rooms can be visited today. The castle museum houses weapons, sculptures, furniture and decorative objects from the 15th-19th centuries, as well as an orchestrion. The castle is particularly impressive for its magnificent carpentry.

The Horezu Monastery is a Romanian Orthodox monastery of nuns located in the historical region of Muntenia Mică, in Valcea county.

https://xn--urlaub-in-rumnien-2qb.de/ro/uir/de-vizitat-locatii-de-vizitat-manastirea-horezu/
Located at the foot of the Căpățânii Mountains, a mountain massif in the Transylvanian Alps, in the village of Romanii de Jos, the monastery is about three kilometers (in a straight line) north of the small town of Horezu.
The cries of nocturnal birds of prey (huhurezi in Romanian) nesting in the woods around the monastery probably gave the place its name. The monastery was founded in 1692 by Constantin Brâncoveanu (1654-1714), then Prince of Muntenia, and completed in 1709. Until 1862 it was a men’s monastery. After the monks were transferred to Bistrița, nuns came to the monastery. The monastery complex has been restored several times since 1827 and is a listed building.
Situated on a hill, the monastery complex is surrounded by two fortifications. The outer, smaller wall encircles the entire monastery property with its holy orders. The second consists of buildings of different heights on three sides and a wall to the east. The entrance to the monastery is on the south side, through a bell tower, which has a massive wooden gate armored with steel. The monastery church of Saints Constantine and Helen, built in the center of the complex in the shape of a cross, is 32 meters long, 14 meters high and was built between 1693 and 1697. There are several tombs in the vestibule of the church, the most beautiful one furnished with marble and with a carved lid intended for Prince Brâncoveanu, but which did not fulfill its purpose and was therefore never used. The large iconostasis is carved in lime wood and covered with gold.
The square chapel with an octagonal tower, whose windows are the light source of the chapel, is located on the west side opposite the entrance to the church and was built in 1697. The chapel frescoes were made between 1705 and 1706 and are still in good condition today.

Marienburg in Feldioara (the Romanian name of the town of the same name, Marienburg) is/was a medieval fortress/castle of the Teutonic Order in the Transylvanian region, in the county of Brasov.
In addition to the fortress itself offering a wonderful view of the surrounding countryside and the mountains of Brasov (German: Kronstadt), it is located about 20 kilometers from Brasov on the road to Sighisoara (German: Schäßburg) and was built on a hill (almost 500 meters above sea level).
In 1211, King Andrew II of Hungary called on the Teutonic Knights to help him against the Cumans to secure the eastern border of his growing kingdom. The king granted them numerous privileges, including immunity, the right of self-government and the building of stone fortresses to secure the surrounding area. In 1838, the town of Marienburg (Romanian name: Feldioara) with Ordensburg Marienburg was severely destroyed by an earthquake. Extensive renovation and reconstruction of the castle ruins took place between 2013 and 2017.

The Church of St. Nicholas in Densuș (Demsdorf), Hunedoara County, in western Romania, is the oldest stone church in the country.
It was built in its present form in the 13th century on the site of a 2nd-century Roman temple, with materials from the Dacian fortress of Sarmizegetusa. Inside the church are 15th-century murals depicting Jesus in traditional Romanian clothes.
According to Romanian historians, a Dacian temple built to the god Zamolxis once stood on the site of the present church. Later conquered by the Romans, they built another temple there, dedicated to the god Mars. Given its more extensive prehistory, the origin of this church in Densuș dates back to the 4th century AD and is thus considered the oldest church in Romania and south-eastern Europe.

The jagged roof, with two watchtowers on the south and north sides, gives it a distinctive appearance. The stone tablet with the oldest coat of arms of the town and the motto “Nomen Domini, turris fortissima” (in translation: The name of God is the strongest castle) comes from this tower and is kept in the History Museum in the Clock Tower in the town of Sighisoara (in German Sighisoara).

The Hunedoara Castle (also known as Hunedoara Castle, in German as Eisenmarkt Castle, in Romanian as Corvin’s Castle or Huniazilor Castle, in Hungarian as Vajdahunyadi vár) is one of the most important non-clerical buildings in Transylvania. The rock castle was built on the remains of a 14th-century fortification and is located in the south-western part of Hunedoara (German: Eisenmarkt) in western Romania.
The listed castle bears many other names (Castelul Corvinilor, Castelul Corvinilor, Castelul Corvinilor, Castelul Corvinilor, Castelul Corvineștilor, Castelul Corvinilor, Castelul din Piața de Fier, Castelul Negru, Castelul Vajdahunyad, Castelul Hunyadi), which can be attributed to its location or its owners.
After 1440, the Hungarian statesman and army commander Johann Hunyadi had an existing fortification rebuilt and turned it into the ancestral castle of the Hunyadi family. In the second construction phase, the castle was extended from 1458 under King Matthias Corvinus. At the beginning of the 17th century, further major changes were made to the building under Prince Gábor Bethlen, so today’s castle is a mixture of different architectural styles.
The castle has been in Austrian hands since 1724 and has been Romanian state property since 1918. Apart from being a tourist attraction, the castle is (and has been) used as a backdrop for a number of Romanian and international film productions. The castle now houses a museum.

Carta Monastery (Kerz in German) is a former Cistercian (Benedictine) monastery in the Făgăraș region of Transylvania, Romania. It is located on the left bank of the Olt River, between the cities of Sibiu and Făgăraș, and is now an evangelical Lutheran church.
The exact date of the foundation of Carta Monastery (Latin: monasterium beatae Mariae virginis in Candelis de Kerch) is unknown. A document from Constance of April 17, 1418, issued by Sigismund, King of Hungary, vaguely states that the monastery was founded, built and granted rights and privileges by its predecessors. Cistercian documents from the 13th-15th centuries, collected and analyzed by Leopold Janauschek, mention the year of the foundation of the monastery as around 1202-1203.
