Easter greetings from Galati
(6 April 2018 / Images: April 2018)
It just has to be if it’s “typical” for Romania now, we don’t know. But you go for a walk in the park and there he stands, the Easter Bunny, two meters or even bigger and glowing in the sun. Kind of cheesy but beautiful again and never seen in D or AT. We think it’s awesome and every kid in the park will definitely want to take a picture with the Easter Bunny. For that reason alone, like for this reason alone.

Happy Easter
(28 March 2018)
Easter comes this weekend in Germany and the following weekend in Romania. If you want, you can experience Easter twice.
On the night of Easter Saturday to Easter Sunday, young and old flock to church in Romania with a candle in their hand. As well as attending Mass, every visitor to the church carries a candle lit at midnight on this Easter night as a sign of the rebirth of Jesus Christ. Once there, they draw a cross over the front door with the candle soot.
Bread and red eggs are just as often brought to Easter services to bless these preparations there. Artistic egg painting is also a tradition in many areas of Romania.

Table: Romanian cuisine
(15 March 2018)
If you love good (and soulful) food, can’t resist fish and seafood and would like to experience something new again, well … Romanian cuisine is MUST. Mămăligă is a national dish, similar to Italian polenta and is made from corn kernels. A wide variety of soups, endless meat and fish and especially desserts enrich lunch and dinner. As a visitor, you should really take the word SÜSS-Essen very seriously, there are an infinite number of types and 99% are much sweeter than the usual German palate.
The pictures were kindly provided by Gaffino restaurant in Galati. You can eat there comfortably, very tasty (recurring personal experience) and also very cheap (from 25 lei, just under 5 euro). Only arriving for dinner is a bit too difficult depending on the location.

Iasi – always worth a trip
(12 March 2018 / Images: March 2018)
Iasi, located in northeastern Romania, is a city with an ancient history. As the former capital of Moldavia, Iasi is now one of the largest cities in Romania, characterized by an international airport and over 25,000 students from various faculties. Worth a visit by plane, a drive should be reserved more for those who like to drive a lot. Departing from Timisoara (located near the Hungarian border), it is another 10-12 hours by car, from Sibiu only on country roads.
Driving at night is not recommended for many roads in the country! Sometimes the median is missing, other times the verge, pedestrians are usually dressed in color, and it can happen that a cow is warming up directly on the road (usually in spring or fall) and patiently waits until the driver stops and the other lane passes by. Also worth mentioning are the potholes, which are certainly much more common and larger than in Germany and you should be careful enough if you are interested in continuing your journey! March 1: “Marchchen”
(28 February 2018)
Mărțișor is a typical gift for March 1st in Romania. It consists of a red and white cord, usually with a small tag, and is attached to clothing. The Marchchen symbolizes spring and was originally worn by women and children. The two colors (red and white) symbolize snow and the sun. Nowadays, mainly women receive a Marchchen gift, lucky charms are attached to the thread and as soon as you (or the woman here) see a flowering tree, you (Frau) throw the Marchchen into it and wish for something!
O excursie de vară: Castelul Dracula
(20 February 2018 / Imagini: August 2017)

Spring in Romania, an Easter trip worth it!
(21 January 2018)
April 1 is Easter Sunday in Germany (April 8 in Romania) and by this time, spring in Romania has long since begun. Why not look for Easter eggs together with a Romanian bunny. Both are larger (pictures) and can be easily spotted at night. By car you can reach Romania in 7 hours from the Bavarian border (please don’t forget the vignettes for Austria, Hungary and Romania). In another 3 hours you can reach Sibiu or you can stay near Timisoara (about 1 hour from the border).
Who comes by air, can allege: Bucharest, Sibiu, CLij-Napoca, Timisoara and other cities where you can reach directly from Germany. And those who make their travel plans now, surely get the flight at a good price.
By the way: Taxi fares are very favorable in Romania (Bucharest for example from 1,39 lei = 30 Cent per km).If you take into account for something else, more the southern driving style of this city, you really don’t need a rented car for a few days. The flight is sufficient and taxis are always and everywhere available.

Castle of Lut Zanelor Valley – The castle made of clay
(9 January 2018)
It’s a special place near Sibiu to relax and forget about real life for a short while. Immerse yourself in a fairytale-like fantasy world that seems to be built and inhabited by hobbits. By the time you can “only” visit this place, in the near future there should be the possibility to spend the night there. Entry per person: 5 lei (approx. €1.10.) You can get to Sibiu from Germany by highway or by plane. The Lut Castle is less than 50 km (about an hour by car) from the center of Sibiu. Find out more …
