(20 October 2021)
The Church of St. Nicholas in Densuș (Demsdorf), Hunedoara county in western Romania is the oldest stone church in the country. According to Romanian historians, there was once a Dacian temple on the site of today’s church, which was built for the god Zamolxis. Later conquered by the Romans, they again built a temple there, which was dedicated to the god Mars. Given its later prehistory, the origins of this church in Densuș date back to the 4th century AD and is therefore the oldest church in Romania and south-eastern Europe.

Romania’s haunted forest, HoiaBaciu
(2 October 2021)
Just outside Cluj-Napoca (German: Klausenburg), in north-western Romania, lies the Hoia Baciu Forest, one of the most visited forests in the world, also known as Romania’s Bermuda Triangle. Why? Over the decades there have been hundreds of reports of paranormal activity, ranging from mobile phone outages, sightings of balls of light and ghosts, to people and animals disappearing and returning years later.
The Hoia Baciu Forest takes its name from a shepherd in the region who disappeared into the forest with his flock of sheep. Another story tells of a five-year-old girl who went into the forest and five years later came back wearing the same clothes and not looking a day older. Many stories are about a glade where nothing grows, and although scientists have examined the land and determined that everything is fine.
And whether you’re looking for the supernatural or just an interesting hike, this forest is a fascinating and unique place and definitely worth a visit.

The castle was built in the 11th century and is the symbol of the town of Rupea (Reps). It can be seen from far above the town on Kohalmer Berg (578 meters). It is first mentioned in documents in 1324, when the Saxons fought against the King of Hungary.
