The horses in his stable are trained both for riding lessons with children and adults as well as for endurance and obstacles. Riding lessons are held in nature and can last between 30 minutes and 2 hours depending on the student’s level of knowledge. „The bridge of lies” is one of the most famous landmarks of Sibiu. Built in 1859 * in Friedrichshütte in Hesse, here was built the first cast iron bridge in Romania (and the second in Europe).
There are many legends about names, but because it was also the first bridge that did not stand on the pillars, it was called „ Liegebrücke ”... and the word „ Lügenbrücke ”' then it wasn't that far ... 😅 😊

Museum of Traditional Popular Culture in Sibiu (Hermannstadt in German) is one of the largest open-air museums in Romania.
Located just south of Sibiu (German: Hermannstadt), the museum is located in the "Dumbrava Sibiului" forest, on the connecting road between Sibiu and Rășinari, about three kilometers (3) from the city.
Contains installations of traditional pre-industrial Romanian popular civilization. Houses, workshops and construction complexes are scattered around a lake, among the trees of the Sibiu Drumbrates.

Carta Monastery (German: Kerz) is a former Cistercian monastery (Benedictine) from the Fagaras region of Transylvania, Romania. It is located on the left bank of the Olt River, between the cities of Sibiu and Fagaras and is now a Lutheran church.
The exact date of the founding of the monastery is unknown (Latin: monasterium beatae Mariae virgins in Candelis de Kerch). A Constance document of April 17, 1418, issued by Sigismund, king of Hungary, vaguely states that the monastery was founded by its predecessors, built and provided with rights and privileges. From Leopold Janauschek they collected and analyzed Cistercian documents from 13 to 15. The century mentions the founding year of the monastery around 1202-1203.

The carpenter's storm in Sibiu / Sibiu (in Romanian: The carpenters' Tower) was in the 14th century. 17th century built by the Saxon carpenter's guild in Hermannstadt.
The tower was part of the city's third fortified belt and is today the left tower, the defensive wall and the fortress still preserved. It is located on Zitadellenstraße (Harteneckgasse, named after Mayor Johann Sachs von Harteneck).
Pottery Tower (in Romanian Potters' Tower) was built in the 15th century by the Saxon guild. It was also part of the city's third fortified belt and is located to the right of the defensive wall and a preserved fortress.

On the road from Sibiu to Brașov is the city of Fagaras, at the end of the 12th century the castle was just a wooden fortress, which was built in the 14th century. the century was extended to a stone fortress.
The castle includes a museum that can be visited, as well as the castle. Right next to the fortress is the cathedral / church of St. John the Baptist.

The village is part of the municipality of Mosna and is also known under the old Romanian names Alma Saşe and Alma Intre Vii, as well as in Hungarian such as Almad, Szaszalmas, Nemet-Almas and Almas.

The fortified church of Biertan is located in the municipality of Biertan ( in German Birthälm, in Hungarian Berethalom ) in the district of Sibiu in Transylvania. Biertan is part of the first German-Saxon settlements and was already mentioned in 1398 ( other sources: 1402 ).
Like any Saxon settlement, it stands out through a series of houses, which rise around a central square above the imposing church fortress. Between 1572 and 1867, Biertan was the seat of the Saxon Diocese ( Bishop of the Evangelical Church of A.B. ), which favored the construction of one of the largest peasant communities in Transylvania, around this fortified church. It is a medieval and architectural treasure in Romania, which is definitely worth visiting.

The Protestant fortified church in Baassen was built in the 14th century and rebuilt in the 16th century. Today, the church and part of the community home are protected by monuments.

Like any Saxon settlement, it stands out through a series of houses, which rise around a central square above the imposing church fortress. Between 1572 and 1867, Biertan was the seat of the Saxon Diocese ( Bishop of the Evangelical Church of A.B. ), which favored the construction of one of the largest peasant communities in Transylvania, around this fortified church. It is a medieval and architectural treasure in Romania, which is definitely worth visiting.

The carpenter's storm in Sibiu / Sibiu ( in Romanian: The carpenters' Tower ) was in the 14th century. 17th century built by the Saxon carpenter's guild in Hermannstadt. The tower was part of the city's third fortified belt and is today the left tower, the defensive wall and the fortress still preserved. It is located on Zitadellenstraße ( Harteneckgasse, named after Mayor Johann Sachs von Harteneck ).
Pottery Tower ( in Romanian Potters' Tower ) was built in the 15th century by the Saxon guild. It was also part of the city's third fortified belt and is located to the right of the defensive wall and a preserved fortress.

Alba Carolina Fortress in Alba Iulia ( Karlsburg ) was built between 1715 and 1738 under the rule of Emperor Charles VI as a fortification with seven bastions ( 7 ).
It served the Habsburgs as a strategic defense along the military border with the Ottoman Empire. Alba Iulia is located near the highway on the road to and from Sibiu.

Valea Viilor ( German: Wurmloch ) is a municipality in the Sibiu district of the historical region of Transylvania.
Valea Viilor, originally Vorumloc, was probably first mentioned as the Hungarian Baromlak in 1224 ( possible 1305 ) . Siebenbürgisch-Sächsische Hörigendorf, which was originally owned by the nobility, could later join Mediascher Stuhl and thus become free. Until 1964, the place in Romania under the German name Vorumloc, then renamed „ Valley of the vineyards ” ( German meaning: Valley of the vineyards ).
In 1850, the proportion of Germans was over 65%, and in 1977 it was over 50%, today only about 1-2% of the inhabitants are Germans.

The old town / center of Sibiu in beautiful images. Sibiu ( in Romanian Sibiu, in Hungarian Nagyszeben and in the Transylvanian-Saxon Hermestatt ) is the capital of the district of the same name in the historical region of Transylvania.
Probably in 1147 the first German settlers arrived in the area, and the first written mention of the city dates from 1191. From 1223 the Latin name "Villa Hermanni" and from 1241 the German equivalent Hermannstorf is documented.

Carta Monastery ( German: Kerz ) is a former Cistercian monastery ( Benedictine ) from the Fagaras region of Transylvania, Romania. It is located on the left bank of the Olt River, between the cities of Sibiu and Fagaras and is now a Lutheran church.
The exact date of the founding of the monastery is unknown ( Latin: monasterium beatae Mariae virgins in Candelis de Kerch ). A Constance document of April 17, 1418, issued by Sigismund, king of Hungary, vaguely states that the monastery was founded by its predecessors, built and provided with rights and privileges. From Leopold Janauschek they collected and analyzed Cistercian documents from 13 to 15. The century mentions the founding year of the monastery around 1202-1203.

Carta Monastery ( Kerz in German ) is a former Cistercian / Benedictine monastery in Sibiu District in Transylvania.
It is located on the left bank of the Olt River, between the cities of Sibiu and Fagaraș and is now a Lutheran church. The exact date of the founding of the monastery is unknown ( Latin: monasterium beatae Mariae virgins in Candelis de Kerch ).
A Constance document of April 17, 1418, issued by Sigismund, king of Hungary, vaguely states that the monastery was founded by its predecessors, built and provided with rights and privileges. From Leopold Janauschek they collected and analyzed Cistercian documents from 13 to 15. The century mentions the founding year of the monastery around 1202-1203.

Alba Carolina Fortress in Alba Iulia ( Karlsburg ) was built between 1715 and 1738 under the rule of Emperor Charles VI as a fortification with seven bastions (7).
It served the Habsburgs as a strategic defense along the military border with the Ottoman Empire. Alba Iulia is located near the highway on the road to or from Sibiu ( Sibiu ).

Lake Balea is a glacial lake in the Romanian Carpathians.
It is located in the Fagaras Mountains, on the Transfagarasan road, between the Negoiu and Moldoveanu mountains. And what looks like the fog here is probably rather the clouds ( thank you for the information of Mr. George Cus ), simply because the lake is so high.
The lake is located in Sibiu district and is located about 80 km from Sibiu ( in German Hermannstadt ) and approx. 70 km from Fagaras ( in English Fogarash or Fugreschmarkt ).
Soon, the ( Transfagarasan ) road to the lake will be reopened ( July 1, possibly earlier ). Until then, Lake Balea can be reached by cable car.

Samuel von Brukenthal ( born in 1721, died 1803 ) was one of the most important personalities of Transylvania.
He studied administrative sciences, history, philosophy and theology in Germany. His professional career in administration began with his marriage to the daughter of the mayor of Sibiu ( Sibiu ). His professional duties took him to Vienna in 1753, where he met the famous Empress Maria Teresa, who became his supporter and friend. He spent many years in the Viennese court and was governor of Transylvania between 1777 and 1787. He was the only Transylvanian Saxon to ever rule this country.

It was influenced by the ideas of the European Enlightenment at the time. He was a passionate collector, interested in art, coins, books, minerals and plants. Under the influence of his stay in Vienna, he built his summer residence in Avrig on the model of the imperial palace in Schönbrunn!
Master Mircea Codrea made for Brukenthal Palace a copy of Brukenthal's portrait in the same size as the original, which can be seen in the Orangeria restaurant above the fireplace.

About half way from Sibiu ( Hermannstadt ) to Brașov ( Kronstadt ) is the town of Fagaras ( Fogarasch or Fugreschmarkt ).
At the end of the twelfth century, the castle was only a wooden fortress, which was extended in the 14th century to a stone fortress. The castle includes a museum that can be visited, as well as the castle.

Excerpt from the history of Sibiu: In 1438, the Turks besieged the city, but failed to take it. However, the entire surrounding area was devastated.
As a result of the threat of the Turks, the city had three wall rings built with 39 towers and several large gates. It became the largest fortified city in the Kingdom of Hungary. Hermannstadt repeatedly resisted the sieges of the Turks, who never managed to capture the city.
In 1442, the Turks were beaten at the city gates, Mayor Thomas Trautenberger became a legend. Therefore, in 1445, Pope Eugene IV described Sibiu as a wall and a shield of Christianity.
However, the armies passing by and tanning in front of the city destroyed the entire surrounding area again. Once, the Hungarian prince of Transylvania, Gabriel Bathory, managed to occupy the city through a trick, robbing and expelling all German inhabitants from the solid walls - a bitter lesson, which led to an even greater vigilance and distrust of the Germans.
By 1500, Sibiu already had about 6,000 inhabitants. In the Reformation, the writings of Martin Luther and Philipp Melanchthon came to the city in 1523. In 1543, Protestant creed was introduced because states gave each other the freedom to decide on the faith. On March 31, 1556, during a city fire, the entire lower town and also part of the upper city burned down and about 550 buildings were destroyed.
Hermannstadt was the political center of the Transylvanian Saxons and the headquarters of Universitas Saxonum, a kind of Transylvanian Parliament that dealt with Transylvanian-Saxon concerns until 1878 and was a symbol of political unity and the independence of the Transylvanian Saxons.

Currently (now at the end of March) this region should be covered with a lot of snow and travel there is only possible by cable car.

If you plan your vacation once in the corner of Fagarai in (half way from Sibiu to Brasov and vice versa) (there is magnificent nature, the mountains of Fagaras, many monasteries and other sights and Brasov (Kronstadt) and Sibiu (Hermannstadt) are not far.. . ) find here a very cheap, beautiful and very clean accommodation.
Pension Silba in Vad is approx. 20 km from Fagaras and many excursion destinations can be reached in a short period of time.
A double room (for 2 people) costs from 150 lei per night (approx. 32 Euro, so 16,- Euro/person) and whoever looks at the pictures... you can't say "no" 😊 The guesthouse is ideal for families , as there are many opportunities for outdoor play for children, for adults to "party" and more. The kitchen can also be used by any visitor for self-catering. It's a tip we've tested ourselves and definitely recommend.

Pension Silba in Vad is approx. 20 km from Fagaras and many excursion destinations can be reached in a short period of time.
A double room (for 2 people) costs from 150 lei per night (approx. 32 Euro, so 16,- Euro/person) and whoever looks at the pictures... you can't say "no" 😊 The guesthouse is ideal for families , as there are many opportunities for outdoor play for children, for adults to "party" and more. The kitchen can also be used by any visitor for self-catering. It's a tip we've tested ourselves and definitely recommend.

Kerz Monastery (German for "Our Dear Candlelight Wife") is a former Cistercian abbey in Siebenburg, Sibiu district. It is approximately 50 km away from Hermannstadt (Sibiu) towards Brașov (Kronstadt).
The monastery was founded in 1202 as a branch of the Egresch monastery. Kerz Abbey was originally allocated an area to the left of Altufer by the Hungarian king - the so-called. terram exemptam de Blaccis and was fortified with several villages in the vicinity, including Michelsberg near Heltau, which had been in the possession of the monastery since 1223.

Between 1572 and 1867, Biertan was the seat of the Saxon Diocese (bishop of the Evangelical Church A.B.), which favored the construction of one of the largest peasant communities in Transylvania, around this fortified church. It is a medieval and architectural treasure in Romania, which is definitely worth a visit.

The old town / center of Sibiu in beautiful pictures. Sibiu (in Romanian Sibiu, in Hungarian Nagyszeben and in Transylvanian Saxon Hermetat) is the capital of the district with the same name in the historical region of Transylvania.
Probably in 1147 the first German settlers arrived in the area, and the first written mention of the city dates back to 1191. Since 1223 the Latin name "Villa Hermanni" has been documented and since 1241 the German equivalent Hermannstorf has been documented.

On the road from Sibiu to Brașov is the city of Fagaras, at the end of the 12th century the castle was just a wooden fortress, which was built in the 14th century. the century was extended to a stone fortress.
The castle includes a museum that can be visited, as well as the castle. Right next to the fortress is the cathedral / church of St. John the Baptist.

Lake Bâlea is a glacial lake in the Romanian Carpathians.
It is located in the Fagaras Mountains, on the Transfogarascher Hochstraße ( Transfagarasan ) between the Negoiu and Moldoveanu mountains, the two highest mountains in the Romanian Carpathians. The lake is located about 80 km from Sibiu, 70 km from Fagaras and 85 km from Curtea de Arges.

The Museum of Traditional Popular Culture in Sibiu is one of the largest open-air museums in Romania.
The museum is located directly south of Sibiu ( in German: Hermannstadt ) in the "Dumbrava Sibiului" forest, on the connecting road between Sibiu and Rasinari, about three kilometers ( 3 ) from the city.
Contains installations of traditional pre-industrial Romanian popular civilization. Houses, workshops and construction complexes are scattered around a lake, among the trees in the Dumbravii of Sibiu.

Sibiu ( in Romanian Sibiu, in Hungarian Nagyszeben and in the Transylvanian-Saxon Hermestatt ) is a city in the geographical region of Transylvania and was / is one of the centers of the Transylvanian Saxons. Probably in 1147 the first German settlers arrived in the area; they settled on the hill above the Zibin River, the upper town of today. The first documented mention of the city dates from 1191 under the name praepositum Cibiniensem; a challenge was created. From 1223 the Latin name "Villa Hermanni" and from 1241 the German equivalent Hermannstorf. In the 20th century, Sibiu became a commercial center of international importance. It was one of the most important cities in Transylvania - perhaps even the most important, because it was not only the center of trade, administration and church, but it also had the largest fortifications in all of Transylvania.

The fortified church of Richis is located in the municipality of Biertan, in Sibiu County and was built in the second half of the 14th century. 18th century ( 14th century: 01.01.1301 to 31.12.1400 ) built as a monastery.
Around 1400, this monastery was transformed into a Catholic church fortified and completed in 1451 ( image ). Today, the visitor meets a Lutheran church, a real treasure that is gradually revealed to the visitor's eye. The interior of the kriche is rich in a unique zoomorphic representation ( in animal forms, in the form of an animal ) and plant motifs.
Around 1400, this monastery was transformed into a Catholic church fortified and completed in 1451 ( image ). Today, the visitor meets a Lutheran church, a real treasure that is gradually revealed to the visitor's eye. The interior of the kriche is rich in a unique zoomorphic representation ( in animal forms, in the form of an animal ) and plant motifs.

A Constance document of April 17, 1418, issued by Sigismund, king of Hungary, vaguely states that the monastery was founded by its predecessors, built and provided with rights and privileges. From Leopold Janauschek they collected and analyzed Cistercian documents from 13 to 15. The century mentions the founding year of the monastery around 1202-1203.

„ The bridge of lies ” is one of the most famous landmarks of Sibiu. Built in 1859 in Friedrichshütte in Hesse, here was built the first cast iron bridge in Romania ( and the second in Europe ).
There are many legends about names, but because it was also the first bridge that did not stand on the pillars, it was called „ Liegebrücke ”... and the word „ Lügenbrücke ”' then it was not that far.

Prod, formerly Prud (German: Pruden), is a village in the commune of Hoghilag in Sibiu County, Transylvania. It was first mentioned in writing at the end of the 15th century.
The church, a Gothic building without a tower or fortified choir, was built in the 19th century. In 1902 the old church was demolished, and in 1904 the current church was built on the same site.

Valea Zânelor Clay Castle is located about 40 km from Sibiu (towards Brașov). In 2014 the construction was known, today the "Clay Castle", which looks like it was built for hobbits, is already admired and admired by many hundreds of visitors every day.

Lake Bâlea is a glacial lake located at an altitude of 2,034 meters in the Făgăraș Mountains in central Romania, Sibiu County. There are two cabins open all year round, a weather station and a mountain rescue station. The lake can be reached by car on the Transfăgărășan road in summer and by cable car from the “Bâlea Cascadă” Chalet for the rest of the year.

Cârța Monastery is a former Cistercian (Benedictine) monastery in the Făgăraș Region, Romania. It is located on the left bank of the Olt River, between the cities of Sibiu and Făgăraș, near the villages of Cârța (in German Kerz) and Cățișoara (in German: Kleinkerz) and today a Protestant Lutheran church.
The exact date of the founding of the Córía Monastery (Latin: bea tae Mariae virginis in Candelis de Kerch) is unknown. A document Constance of April 17, 1418, issued by Sigismund, King of Hungary, vaguely states that the monastery was founded, built, and granted rights and privileges by his predecessors. Cistercian documents from the 13th to the 15th centuries collected and analyzed by Leopold Janauschek mention the founding year of the monastery in 1202-1203.

"Bridge of Lies" is one of the most famous landmarks of Sibiu. Made in 1859 in Friedrichshütte in Hesse, the first cast iron bridge in all of Romania (and the second in all of Europe) was built here.
There are many legends about the name, but since it was the first bridge that did not stand on the pillars, it was called "Liegebrücke" ... and the word "Lügenbrücke" was not so far away.

The town of Făgăraș is located on the road between Sibiu and Brașov and you should definitely plan a visit to the fortress and the church (both are next to each other).
Făgăraș (German: Fogarasch or Fugreschmarkt) is a town in Brașov County, Transylvania Region. The city is shaped by the church and the fortress. A legend relates that Prince Negru Vodă left this place to establish the Principality of Wallachia south of the Southern Carpathians. At the end of the 12th century the fortress was only made of wood and was extended into a stone fortress in the 14th century.

The church is located in Biertan commune in Sibiu county in Transylvania. Biertan is part of the first German-Saxon settlements and was already documented in 1398 (other sources: 1402).
Like every settlement in Saxony, it stands out as a row of villages, highlighted by a central square above which rises the imposing church citadel. Between 1572 and 1867, Biertan was the residence of the Saxon Bishop (the episcopal seat of the A.B. Evangelical Church) who favored the construction of one of the largest peasant communities in Sieburgen, around this fortified church. It is a medieval and architectural treasure in Romania, definitely worth a visit.

The Museum of Traditional Popular Culture in Sibiu is one of the largest open-air museums in Romania.
Located immediately south of Sibiu (Hermannstadt in German), the museum is located in the "Dumbrava Sibiului" forest, on the connecting road between Sibiu and Rășinari, approximately three (3) kilometers from the city.
It contains installations of traditional, pre-industrial Romanian folk civilization. Houses, workshops and building complexes are scattered around a lake among the trees of Dumbrăvii Sibiului.

The city of Făgăraș is on the way from Sibiu to Brașov. End of 12. For centuries, the castle was just a wooden fortress, which was in the 14th century. The century was built in a stone fortress. The castle includes a museum, which can be visited.

Iași, located in the north-east of Romania, is a city with an ancient history. Being the former capital of Moldova, Iasi is now one of the largest cities in Romania, characterized by an international airport and over 25,000 students from various faculties.
Well worth a visit by plane, a drive from Germany should be reserved more for those who like to drive a lot. Starting from Timișoara (near the border with Hungary) it is another 10 to 12 hours by car, from Sibiu only on country roads.

Alba Carolina Fortress in Alba Iulia (Karlsburg) was built between 1715 and 1738 under the rule of Emperor Charles VI as a fortification with seven (7) bastions. It served the Habsburgs as a strategic point of defense along the military border with the Ottoman Empire.

Valea Viilor (Wurmloch in German) is a commune in Sibiu County, Transylvania Region.
Valea Viilor, originally Vorumloc, was probably first mentioned under the Hungarian name Baromlak in 1224 (possibly 1305). Transylvania-Saxon Hörigendorf, which was originally held by the nobility, was later able to join the see of Mediascher and thus become free. Until 1964, the local in Romania was run under the German derivative name Vorumloc, then renamed "Valea Viilor" (in German: valea viilor).
In 1850 the proportion of Germans was over 65% and in 1977 over 50%. Today, only about 1-2% of the inhabitants are German.

Lake Bâlea is located at an altitude of 2,034 meters in the nature reserve of the Făgăraș Mountains in Sibiu County. It has a length of 360 meters and a depth of up to 11.5 meters.
In summer, the lake can be reached by car on the Transfăgărășan route, in winter only by cable car. Bâlea Waterfall, also called “Urlătoarea Bâlei”, is also located in the Făgăraș Mountains, between Moldoveanu and Negoiu peaks, at an altitude of over 1,200 meters.

The fortified church in Richiș is located in Biertan, in Sibiu County and was built as a monastery in the second half of the 14th century (14th century: 01.01.1301 to 31.12.1400). Around 1400, this monastery was transformed into a fortified Catholic church and completed in 1451 (pictured).
Today the visitor encounters an evangelical Lutheran church, a true treasure, which is gradually revealed in the eyes of the visitor. The interior of the church is rich in unique zoomorphic motifs (animal-shaped, animal-shaped) and plant motifs.

A dam dams the Sebeș River here, on the border of Alba and Sibiu counties, in the Șureanu Mountains. With an area of 441 hectares (4,410,000 m2) and 136 million cubic meters of water, it is the largest reservoir of the Sebeș River.

Lake Bâlea is a glacial lake in the Romanian Carpathians. It is located in the Făgăraș Mountains on the Transfăgărășan Road between the Negoiu and Moldoveanu Mountains. Cârța Monastery (German: "Unserer lieben Frau zu den Kerzen") is a former Cistercian monastery in Transylvania, Sibiu County. It is located about 50 km from Hermannstadt (Sibiu) in the direction of Brașov (Kronstadt).
The monastery was founded in 1202 as a daughter monastery of the Egresch Monastery. The Cârța Monastery was originally assigned an area to the left of the Altufer by the Hungarian king - the so-called terram exemtam de Blaccis and was depicted with several villages in the area, including Michelsberg near Heltau, which had been held by the monastery since 1223.

Transfăgărășan Road is a mountain road that connects the Argeș Valley in Wallachia to the Olt Valley in Transylvania. The road crosses the Făgăraș Mountains, a mountain range in the Transylvanian Alps. It starts in Argeș County and ends in Sibiu County (or vice versa).

Cârța Monastery (German: Unserer lieben Frau zu den Kerzen) is a former Cistercian monastery in the village of Cârța (Kerz) near Sibiu (Hermannstadt). The monastery was founded in 1202 as a subsidiary monastery of the Egresch monastery and dissolved again in 1474.

The hottest mountain resort in Romania, Sibiu County.
Păltiniș (High Gully) is the oldest mountain ski resort in the country. It was founded in 1894 by the Transylvanian Carpathian Tourist Society and is located at an altitude of 1,442 meters.
The resort is a member of the Deutschsprachiges Gastgewerbe in Rumänien network .
