Christmas time in Romania
(10 December 2017)
That means lights, sweets, Christmas spirit and people from everywhere … and lights, lights, lights! Here are some pictures of the (street) lighting in Brăila and Galați in south-eastern Romania, no snow but “Christmas” everywhere. If you still need things from Germany for the many regional sweets, no problem for the original German gingerbread. And once you get used to the opening hours of the shops (last picture in red) in Romania, unimaginable for Germany! Shopping here is not just about shopping, it’s also about seeing friends and just being together!
The team at Vacanțele in Romania wishes you a peaceful and happy second!

Travel Diary – Christmas Fair in Bucharest
(28 October 2017 / Images: December 2015)
Santa Claus and Christmas, in Germany, we still think of mulled wine, freezing cold and lots and lots of snow. Nowadays, mulled wine already exists since the end of September ( Oh my God) to buy in supermarkets and the rest, maybe it’s coming… maybe not! And in Bucharest, the temperature in December, oscillates around zero degrees, ideal for a walk in the city under the blue sky or through the famous old city center, passing by the Christmas market. Travel report – drive from Brasov to Buzău
(20 October 2017)
Anyone traveling from Germany to Brăila or Galați not only gets a profound insight into the country of Romania, but also has the feeling that they never reach their destination. From the Hungarian / Romanian border, the highway goes fast, takes only a few hours and you can already reach Sibiu in the heart of Romania. On the map, it’s half way, maybe a third or less of the journey time. We continue on the country road to Brasov, where there are finally three options for continuation: 1) via Sinaia to Bucharest and Buzău, there’s a lot to see and, above all, a lot of traffic and, unfortunately, traffic jams, 2) to Târgu Secuiesc and Focșani, the ideal route for all those who love curves upon curves and want to drive a top speed of 30 km/h over 70 km or 3) actually completely hidden, but quiet in traffic and very scenic, the route via Gura Siriului, the river along Buzău to the town of the same name. Actually, my favorite way. Find out more …
Travel Report – Christmas / New Year in Timisoara
(8 October 2017 / Images: 2016 / 2017)
Timisoara is about 800 km from the German border (Passau, Bavaria), highway only and can be reached in 6 1/2 to 7 1/2 hours, depending on border waiting time (variable). For both Austria and Hungary you need a rovinieta, in Romania a rovinieta that can be ordered online very cheaply (sent by e-mail) and paid by PayPal. Timisoara has about 300,000 – 400,000 inhabitants (who knows this exactly) Only with German you can get along with some effort, with a little English there are no problems and nothing stands in the way of a short vacation. Currently in preparation but almost finished. The best thing is to stop every now and then. Find out more …
