Bran Castle is by far the most developed tourist area in Romania and is also accessible by bus directly from Bucharest.

A private cottage by the water for relaxing, fishing right outside the front door, hanging among the trees in the climbing garden, lounging by the pool or being part of an outdoor concert… this and much, much more is possible here young and old.
We decided on a boat trip (in pedal boat ). A good 1 1/2 hours over lakes and through many canals in wonderful nature. We enjoy the tranquility and see and photograph birds who are as comfortable here as we are. A great place to relax… we’ll be back, soon…

Horezu Monastery
(17 August 2021)
Horezu Monastery (also known as Hurezi Monastery) is a Romanian Orthodox monastery of Romanian Orthodox nuns located in the historical region of Valahia Mica in Valcea. At the foot of Căpățânii Mountain, a mountain massif of the Transylvanian Alps, in the territory of the village of Romani de Jos, the monastery is located about three kilometers (air company) north of the small town of Horezu.
The calls of the nocturnal birds of prey (Romanian huhurezi) that roost in the forests surrounding the monastery probably gave the place its name. The monastery was founded in 1692 by the then prince of Wallachia Constantin Brâncoveanu (1654-1714) and was built in 1709 Until 1862 it was a man’s monastery. After the monks were transferred to Bistri ta, the nuns came to the monastery. The monastery complex has been restored several times since 1827 and is under conservation.
On a hill the monastery complex is surrounded by two fortifications. Outside a smaller wall surrounded the whole monastery estate with its hermits. The second is formed on three sides by different buildings and in the east by a wall. The entrance to the monastery is on the south side of a belfry, armored with a solid wooden gate with steel. The monastery church of Sfin ti Impara ti Constantine and Helen built in the middle of the complex in a cross shape is 32 meters long and 32 meters high and was built between 1693 and 1697 In the vestibule of the church there are some tombs, most beautifully equipped with marble and carved casing for Prince Brâncoveanu, but it did not fulfill its purpose and therefore was never used. The large iconostasis is carved in lime wood and encased in gold.
The square chapel with an octagonal tower, whose windows are the light source of the chapel, is located on the west side opposite the entrance to the church and was erected in 1697 The frescoes of the formation were created between 1705 and 1706 and are still in good condition today.

Sighișoara – beautiful and rich in history
(16 August 2021)
It takes many hours if not days to explore the town of Sighișoara in Mureș county. It goes over a lot of cobblestones and sometimes you feel like you are not in Romania, but rather in an old town in Saxony… e.g. Meissen or similar.
Sighișoara was founded in the second half of the 19th century by German immigrants, “Saxony” in Transylvania.
The town has still retained its multicultural character to this day. Town tables and tourist information are labeled in Romanian, German and Hungarian. There are kindergartens where German is spoken, as well as a primary school and a grammar school, where German is offered as the language of instruction. The school issues the German-speaking high school diploma, which is also recognized by German universities. In addition, there are several Protestant churches and a lively community life in the town.

Summer on the Black Sea / Beach
(14 August 2021 / Images: August 2021)
August is here, it is hot, very hot (32 to 38 degrees) and the water is wonderfully fresh. Our goal was once again Vama Veche, the southernmost place on the Romanian Black Sea coast, just a few hundred meters from the Bulgarian border.
The Romanian coast stretches for about 70 km and includes Vama Veche, places like Constanța, Mamaia, Mamaia-Sat, Eforie Nord and Sud, Constinești, Olimp, Neptun, Mangalia and several others. Vama Veche is mainly visited by a younger crowd, it’s the party mile, seen as the “Malle” of Romania, with about 3 – 4,000 visitors on weekends and non-stop loud music (nowadays clubs have roofs from 2:00 to 5:00 in the morning, which doesn’t stop anyone. You party from 2:00 on the beach and at 5:00 continue where you left off at 2:00 … sometimes again until 9 or 10 in the morning).

The Băniței Gorges
(12 August 2021)
The gorges are located in the municipality of Bănița in Hunedoara County and stretch along high limestone walls. They are about 300 meters long and were dug deep into the limestone water. They can be visited on calm summer days, waterproof shoes are a must as the path from the quays also leads through water.
The height of the cliff walls is about 10-15 meters and shows how the water has eroded the rock. In many places the rocks form a roof, which has been formed over hundreds of years by horizontal erosion with the current.

Piatra Neamț is the capital of Neamț county in northeastern Romania.
The town is located in the historical region of Western Moldavia, on the terraces on the left bank of the Bistritz river, surrounded by the foothills of the Eastern Carpathians, the mountains Pietricica, Cozla, Cernegura and Bâtca Doamnei. The oldest traces of a settlement in today’s urban area of Poiana Cireșului (“cherry meadow”) date back to the Mesolithic era (around 12,000 BC).
The town was founded at the end of the 14th century under the name Piatra lui Crăciun. After the establishment of a royal court by Stephen the Great, prince of Moldavia (1433-1504), it was transformed into a renowned center of arts and crafts. The nearby town of Târgu Neamț was the center of a colony of German-speaking settlers in the Middle Ages, hence the name: Neamț is an obsolete Romanian term for “German”.

The hour tower is Sighișoara’s landmark and … a wonderful viewing platform over Sighișoara. Access is possible daily from 9:00 a.m. (weekends from 10:00 a.m.) until 6:00 p.m. Including the museum, admission costs 16 lei (about €3.40) for adults and just under €1 per child.
The tower was built in the second half of the 14th century as a defensive structure for the main gate of the castle and as a council seat (until the end of 1656). The clock tower had its present appearance at the end of the 17th century, when on April 30, 1676 a devastating fire in the lower town also attacked the tower. The clock tower with weather tap has a total height of about 64 meters. The wall thickness is 2.4 meters on the ground floor, the masonry height is 39.5 meters (from 1804), the tower has five floors. On the top floor, the tower is surrounded by an open wooden gallery, which also served as a fire clock and a view of the area around the town.
Letea, Romania’s subtropical forest area
(09 August 2021)
Letea Forest is located in Tulcea County, in the northeast of the Danube Delta, between the Chilia and Sulina rivers and covers an area of over 5,000 hectares. It is the northernmost subtropical forest in Europe and the oldest nature reserve in Romania. Parts of the forest have been under nature protection since 1930.
Historical documents show that the ancestors of today’s horse population came from the Tatars to the northern Danube Delta 300 to 400 years ago, where they made their home and became increasingly wild.
The Letea Forest is home to 500 plant species and more than 3,000 animal species, more than 2,000 of which are insects. The towering trees, such as oak trees several hundred years old, provide ideal living conditions for hoopoes, for example, but also for wild cats and many other animals. White-tailed eagles, swallows and tons of ducks and ratites are also native here.

He wanted to establish a cemetery, unique in Romania, which would show the life and personality of the deceased in a cheerful representation. Each cross has an image carved on the top, representing a special moment in the life of the deceased. Below, humorous poems, short poems or rhymed texts describe the life of the person buried there.

Cârța Monastery in Transylvania
(06 August 2021)
Cârța Monastery is a former Cistercian (Benedictine) monastery in the Făgăraș Region, Romania. It is located on the left bank of the Olt River, between the cities of Sibiu and Făgăraș, near the villages of Cârța (German: Kerz) and Cățișoara (German: Kleinkerz) and today a Protestant Lutheran church.
The exact date of the founding of the monastery of Córía (Latin: monastery bea tae Mariae virginis in Candelis de Kerch) is unknown. A Constance document of April 17, 1418, issued by Sigismund, King of Hungary, vaguely states that the monastery was founded, built and granted rights and privileges by its predecessors. Cistercian documents from the 13th to the 15th centuries collected and analyzed by Leopold Janauschek mention the founding year of the monastery as 1202-1203.

Horezu Monastery
(03 August 2021)
Horezu Monastery (also known as Hurezi Monastery) is a Romanian Orthodox monastery of Romanian Orthodox nuns located in the historical region of Valahia Mica in Valcea. At the foot of Căpățânii Mountain, a mountain massif of the Transylvanian Alps, in the village of Romani de Jos, the monastery is about three kilometers (air company) north of the small town of Horezu.

St. Nicholas Church in Densuș
(03 August 2021)
The Church of St. Nicholas in Densuș (Demsdorf), Hunedoara county in western Romania is the oldest stone church in the country. It was built in its present form in the 19th century on the site of an 18th-century Romanesque temple, with materials from the Dacian fortress of Sarmizegetusa. There are 18th-century murals in the church showing Jesus in traditional Romanian clothing.
According to Romanian historians, there was once a Dacian temple on the site of the present church, built to the god Zamolxis. Later conquered by the Romans, they built there again a temple dedicated to the god Mars. Considering its history, the origin of this church dating back to the 17th century BC is considered the oldest church in Romania and south-eastern Europe.

Summer at the Black Sea / Beach
(02 August 2021)
August is here, it’s hot, very hot (from 32 to 38 degrees) and the water is wonderfully fresh. Our goal, once again, was Vama Veche, the southernmost place on the Romanian Black Sea coast, just a few hundred meters from the Bulgarian border.
The Romanian bathing coast stretches for about 70 km and includes places like Constanta, Mamaia, Mamaia-Sat, Eforie Nord and Sud, Constinesti, Olimp, Neptun, Mangalia and others. Vama Veche is visited primarily by a younger crowd, it’s the party mile, so it saw ′′ Malle ′′ Romania with approx. 3-4.000 visitors on weekends and 3 loud music (currently clubs have lights out from 2:00 to 5:00 in the morning, which doesn’t stop anyone. From 2 o’clock you celebrate on the beach and at 5 o’clock you continue where you took a break at 2 o’clock… partly until 9 o’clock in the morning) – No, no, no.
