Hunedoara Castle (in German Burg Eisenmarkt, in Romanian Corvin Castle or Huniazilor Castle, in Hungarian Vajdahunyadi vár) is one of the most important non-religious buildings in Transylvania. The rock castle was built on the remains of a 14th-century fortification and is located in the south-western part of Hunedoara (German name: Eisenmarkt) in western Romania.
The listed castle has many other names (Corvin Castle, Corviner Castle, Corvinus Castle, Corvinesti Castle, Corvin Castle, Eisenmarkt Castle, Black Castle, Vajdahunyad Castle, Hunyadi Castle), which can be traced back to its location or owners.
After 1440, Hungarian statesman and army commander Johann Hunyadi had an existing fortification converted into the ancestral home of the Hunyadi family. In the second phase of construction, the castle was extended from 1458 under King Matthias Corvinus. In the early 17th century, under the reign of Prince Gábor Bethlen, further major changes were made to the building. Today’s castle is therefore a mixture of different architectural styles.
The castle has been in Austrian ownership since 1724 and in Romanian ownership since 1918. In addition to being a tourist attraction, the castle is (and has been) used as a backdrop for a large number of Romanian and international film productions. There is currently a museum in the castle.

The marquis is a typical March 1st gift in Romania. It consists of a red and white string, usually with a small pendant, and is attached to clothing. The so-called ‘March’ symbolizes spring and was originally worn by women and children. The two colors (red and white) symbolize snow and the sun.
On this day, mainly women receive the marzipan as a gift, lucky charms are attached to the thread and as soon as you (or here the woman) see a blossoming tree, you throw the marzipan into it and make a wish!

The municipality of Harman (in German Honigberg) is located in the historical region of Burzenland, approx. 12 kilometers northeast of the city of Brasov (Kronstadt)
Hungarian King Andreas II in 1211, Burzenland awarded the Order of German Knights, who settled there, built castles, brought German settlers into the country and established villages such as, among others, Honiberg. After clashes with the king, the order was again displaced from Burzenland in 1225, but the German settlements remained.

Romanian cuisine is rich in traditional dishes, which can vary from region to region.
The most popular dishes in Romania include mititeii*, ciorba de burta** and mămăliguța***
*Mititei or Mici is a national dish in Romania. They are grilled minced meat rolls. Mititei were created in the Bucharest restaurant “Caru cu bere” and first offered in 1902.
** Ciorba de belly belongs to the category of soups and is common in Romania in many recipe variations. Its particularity is the acidification with lemon and the addition of a lot of garlic. Burta means belly, which is the belly (rumen / kuddel) of a ruminant (bovine).
*** Mămăliguța, also known as mămăligă, is the Romanian name for a dish made from corn flour.
The picture shows a traditional dish from the Bucovina region: Pastrav in a corn crust with mămăligă and garlic (in English: trout in a corn crust with mămăligă and garlic)

Bran Castle (in Hungarian Törcsvár) is located in the Sevenburg region (Transylvania), Brasov county in Romania. Whether Dracula (his nickname “Vlad III”) lived here or elsewhere, the castle is certainly a tourist attraction and with its associated museum well worth a visit.
Between 1920-1947 it was the royal residence of King Ferdinand I and his wife Queen Marie their daughter Princess Ileana, who inherited the castle from her mother in 1938. Today, the castle is owned by the Habsburg family, which was recovered from the Romanian state during the 2006 inheritance as legal property.
