The Semenic Mountains are located in southwestern Romania and are part of the Banat Mountains. They reach peaks up to 1450 meters and form the southern section of the Western Romanian Carpathians.
The road is in good condition! All locations are open during the December 1 holiday.

About 20 km from Brasov (Kronstadt), on the road to Bran is Râșnov (Rosenau).
A small town with about 15 tds. Inhabitants, a fortress and an animal park. In the 14th century a castle was built over the site on limestone cliffs. In the years 1623 and 1640 in the castle was built a well 80 firs deep (approx. 140 meters), which, according to legend, took 17 years to build two Turkish soldiers, prisoners of war. The two prisoners were promised their freedom upon completion to build the fountain.
Dinopark Rasnov is right next to the fortress. Nothing stands in the way of a wonderful family day out.

The monasteries of Moldavia are located in Bucovina and were built in the 15th and 16th centuries in the then Vltava dynastic tower.
The monasteries are famous for their magnificent frescoes. Many of the buildings date back to Stephen the Great, who is said to have founded a monastery for every battle he won. Eight are world heritage sites.
What’s special about the Vltava monasteries is their colorful painting, which is unique in Europe. The monks wanted to bring the contents of the Holy Scriptures closer to the lower classes, who could neither read nor write. And so they used the monastery’s interior walls, facades and protective walls to depict scenes and parables from the Bible in colorful drawings, paintings and frescoes. They are considered absolute masterpieces of Byzantine art.

The city of Oradea (German: Großwardein, Hungarian: Nagyvárad) lies at the eastern edge of the Great Hungarian Plain on the Crișul Repede River (German: Schnelle Kreisch), with the foothills of the Apuseni Mountains ending at the northeastern edge of the city. The Church of St. Nicholas in Densuș (Demsdorf), Hunedoara County in western Romania is the oldest stone church in the country. It was built in its present form in the 13th century on the site of a 2nd-century Roman temple using materials from the Dacian fortress of Sarmizegetusa. There are 15th-century murals in the church, showing Jesus in traditional Romanian clothes.
According to Romanian historians, there was once a Dacian temple on the site of today’s church, which was built for the god Zamolxis. Later conquered by the Romans, they again built a temple there, which was dedicated to the god Mars. Given its later prehistory, the origins of this church in Densuș date back to the 4th century AD and is therefore the oldest church in Romania and south-eastern Europe.

Cârța Monastery is a former Cistercian (Benedictine) monastery in the Făgăraș Region, Romania. It is located on the left bank of the Olt River, between the cities of Sibiu and Făgăraș, near the villages of Cârța (German: Kerz) and Cățișoara (German: Kleinkerz) and today a Protestant Lutheran church.
The exact date of the foundation of the monastery of Córía (Latin: monastery bea tae Mariae virginis in Candelis de Kerch) is unknown. A Constance document of April 17, 1418, issued by Sigismund, King of Hungary, vaguely states that the monastery was founded, built and granted rights and privileges by its predecessors. Cistercian documents from the 13th to the 15th centuries collected and analyzed by Leopold Janauschek list the founding year of the monastery as 1202-1203.

Iulia Hasdeu Castle is located in the small town of Câmpina in Prahova County.
Iulia Hasdeu Castle was built by the historian and politician Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu as a small castle. Work on it began in 1893 after Hasdeu’s daughter, Iulia Hasdeu, died at the age of 19, an event that dramatically shocked Hasdeu’s life. He claimed that his late daughter offered the plans for the castle’s construction during seances. The building was completed in 1896.
Stories tell of the castle being deeply sinister. There are rooms specially designed for spiritual rituals, equipped with spirit seats. Many claim that Hasdeu (the father) did not build the castle at all to commemorate his daughter Iulia, but to worship Satan. Others say that they have seen Juliet’s ghost, dressed in white and adorned with daisies, haunting the castle to this day.
Since 1994, Iulia Hașdeu Castle has housed the “B.P. Hașdeu” memorial museum, which displays furniture and personal belongings of the Hașdeu family, including photographs, original documents, manuscripts, reviews of Hasdeu and pictures by Nicolae Grigorescu and Sava Henția.

Cărturești Carusel bookstore is much more than a “bookstore”. It’s located in the historic center of Bucharest and covers six floors with a total surface area of 1,000 square meters.
A bistro upstairs, a multimedia room on the ground floor and a contemporary art gallery on the first floor are inviting and fun to look at, decorate, sit and also shop.
The elegant 19th-century building (1903) came into the possession of the famous Chrissoveloni banking family, then confiscated in communist times and turned into a business. After 1990, the building was brought back to life by the current owner Jean Chrissoveloni, in cooperation with the architectural firm Square One.

On a starry winter night.
The Black Church (Die Schwarze Kirche in German) is a Gothic hall church in the Transylvanian city of Brasov (Kronstadt in German). It was originally consecrated as the Catholic Church of the Virgin Mary. With the Reformation in Transylvania, which was largely driven from the Transylvanian-Saxon population by the reformer and later Kronstadt pastor Johannes Honterus, the Catholic patronage was abandoned. The Black Church took its present name after a fire in the town in 1689.

The church is located in the commune of Biertan in the county of Sibiu in Transylvania. Biertan is one of the earliest German-Saxon settlements and was already documented in 1398 (other sources: 1402).
Like every settlement in Saxony, it stands out with a row of villages, which is emphasized by a central square above which the imposing church fortress rises. Between 1572 and 1867, Biertan was the residence of Bishop Saxon (episcopal see of the Evangelical Church A.B.), who fostered the building of one of the largest peasant communities in Sieburgen around this fortified church. It is a medieval and architectural treasure in Romania, definitely worth a visit.

But despite it all, or maybe just because of it, cities are starting to decorate themselves… with trees and lights and depending on the region, soon the first snow. The pictures show the city of Brasov and the Sibiu Christmas tree in December two years ago.
We wish and hope that this winter will be a time of mind, peace and, above all, health for everyone.
